Itinerary
Explore the north rim of Europe's largest active volcano on this guided trip from Piano Provenzana. See the key sights like the Umberto and Margherita craters and Pizzi Deneri promontory, and make short treks on the volcano itself.

Meet your guide and depart from Piano Provenzana, 1,800 meters up on the northern side of Mount Etna. Witness the volcano through the window of special 4×4 off-road vehicles.

Enjoy a first stop at the ruins of the Le Betulle Hotel, the only visible structure from those destroyed by the lava flow of 2002. Continue towards the enormous Umberto and Margherita craters. Once there, take part in a small trek at an altitude of 2,380 metres.

Next, head for the volcanological observatory at Pizzi Deneri, 2,818 metres up. Embark on a 15-minute trek to the top of the Pizzi Deneri promontory. If weather conditions permit, admire the Aeolian Islands, Jonic coast from Syracuse to Taormina, gulf of Giardini Naxos, and Calabrian coast. Observe the summit craters that dominate the majestic Valle del Bove.

Once back on the vehicle, continue to the area of the 2002 eruption with its characteristic buttonhole craters. Marvel at views of lava flow before a short descent down a sandy slope to the off-road vehicles and the return to Piano Provenzana.
