Itinerary
War Museum Medemblik consists of two exhibitions:
1. 'Road to Freedom' (about the military side)
2. 'Choices in Almersdorp' (about the civil side)
Also in English & German.

-- Exhibition 'Road to Freedom' --
This exhibition is about the unknown stories and operations from the Second World War, but which were very important for our freedom today. For example, the logistics operation 'Red Ball Express' that was necessary to supply the 3 million soldiers for months. But also creating the very risky emergency bridges over rivers and canals where the Germans had blown up the bridges. With the Story Map you can discover at your own leisure the missions and stories that were necessary on the road to freedom.

-- Exhibition 'Choices in Almersdorp' --
Go back in time in detail with a grocery store, cozy café, house, printing house, classroom and more. This village focuses on the civilian side of the Second World War. With the Story Guide Booklet you can go through the village at your own leisure and discover the stories. For the elderly, this 1940s village is truly a feast of recognition!

You can visit the 3,000m2 museum in the traditional way during our opening hours by looking around freely and reading the stories. An average museum visit lasts between 1.5 and 3.5 hours, based on approximately 30,000 museum visits per year.

There is also the unique opportunity to take a 15-minute tour in a real WWII Army truck vintage car for a small additional charge, telling a story at a monument along the way!
The Museum team hopes to meet you soon!

If you really want to experience the storyline as the Museum team has set it up, we recommend that you experience one of the two Experience Tours according to the Escaperoom concept. An Experience Tour lasts 2 hours and you choose a time slot for it. The rest of the day you can freely look around the entire museum.
