Itinerary
Maruoka Castle, also known as Kasumigajo, is a historical landmark that dates back to the Sengoku period (1467-1615). It was constructed in 1576 by Katsutoyo Shibata, the nephew of the warlord Shibata Katsuie, who served under Oda Nobunaga. The castle's construction reflects the influence of Oda Nobunaga, despite the complex relationships and rivalries between the figures involved during Japan's warring states era.

Maruoka Castle is one of Japan's "12 Original Castles," meaning it is one of the few remaining castles from the pre-Edo period that still stands today in its original form. This makes it extremely rare and valuable. Of these 12, Maruoka Castle is the only one remaining in the Hokuriku region, and it has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, a status given to protect and preserve significant cultural sites.

In spring, Maruoka Castle becomes a popular destination for hanami (cherry blossom viewing) due to the 400 Yoshino cherry trees planted on its grounds. The castle is recognized as one of Japan's top 100 cherry blossom spots, and every April, the Maruoka Castle Cherry Blossom Festival is held, attracting visitors from across the country. The combination of the ancient architecture and the vivid pink blossoms creates a surreal, picturesque atmosphere that resembles a scene from a fantasy. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities during the festival, such as food stalls, performances, and the breathtaking night illumination of the cherry trees, enhancing the magical ambiance.

The castle's historical significance, combined with the beauty of the cherry blossoms, makes Maruoka Castle a unique blend of history and nature, offering a memorable experience to those who visit.
