Okayama Castle, originally built by daimyo Ukita Hideyoshi to assist in Toyotomi Hideyoshi's efforts to unify Japan, was completed in 1597. Known as "Crow Castle" due to its black exterior walls, it also earned the name "Golden Crow Castle" for its gold leaf tiles.
The castle tower, damaged during wartime, was reconstructed in 1966 (Showa 41). Selected as one of Japan's top 100 famous castles, it reopened in November 2022. Visitors can explore exhibits focused on the Warring States and Edo periods, learn about the castle's construction, take commemorative photos, browse unique souvenirs, and enjoy locally-inspired sweets at the on-site café.
