Begin your adventure with a 1-hour drive to Jozani National Park. Embark on a guided journey through the jungle, where you'll learn about the unique monkey species of Zanzibar, as well as other animals like the elephant shrew.
After your forest tour, take a short trip to the other side of the national park to explore the mystical world of Zanzibari mangrove trees. Walk along a wooden trail to see thousands of black crabs at work beneath the mangroves, and if you're lucky, hear the mangroves “talking.”
Next, head to Prison Island, also known as Changuu Island, located about 5.6 km northwest of Stone Town. Despite its name, the island was never used as a prison for criminals. It was originally a detention center for rebellious slaves in the 1860s and later a quarantine station for yellow fever patients in the 1890s.
Discover the island's main attractions, including the giant tortoises of Aldabra, some of which are over 200 years old. Visit the historic prison ruins to gain insight into the island's colonial past.
Snorkel in the clear waters around the island, home to colorful coral reefs and a variety of tropical fish. Relax on the beautiful white sandy beaches and enjoy panoramic views of Stone Town and the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
Finish your adventure at a local spice farm. Learn about Zanzibar's role as the Spice Island, and taste fresh cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, nutmeg, and tropical fruits. Watch locals climb trees to harvest coconuts and enjoy the chance to buy fresh spices directly from the farm.
