Reviews: Nairobi: Party bus(matatu) adventure experience

This was not a group tour as I thought it would be, it was just the three of us with 2 guides, we walked through Nairobi CBD and had a look at the local party matatus and then picked a bus to be on. You have to wait for the bus to fill up with other people (who are just locals traveling for work or other purposes) but it didn’t take too long. Bus fare was not included in the tour price so take some cash XD. We paid 100KES per person for what should have been a 20-30 mins ride one way and the other way you will have to pay the same. Except for us we ended up being in a crash with the matata and a random car about 10 mins in. Since I had my two kids with me who by that time had a pretty good fright because of the (minor) crash we decided to just go back to the KICC and go to the heli pad. Our guides were super flexible and it was fine, we caught a normal (not party) matatu back to the KICC area and paid 20KES per person for the 5-10 mins ride there. The heli pad we also had to pay for.

I traveled to Kenya to attend the 2024 edition of Magical Kenya Travel Expo from 2nd to 4th October, 2024. Ahead of that, I was hosted together with a team of media practitioners to a five-day experience some of the quintessential Kenyan tourism and hospitality offerings across the country. My small team of five journalists and a Kenyan Tourism Board official spend time in Meru and Amboseli. Our game drives in Meru and Amboseli gave an opportunity to see several wildlife, including four of the Big Five (except that elusive leopard). We slept in some of the best facilities Kenya has on offer for safari tourists at three different places with different classes and themes. Rhino River Camp in Meru, Elephant Gorge Camp and Tulia Safari Camp in Amboseli were the places we slept at during our four nights of touring. Because we were able to sight the grave of Elsa the Lioness, did soundowners and bush breakfasts and saw a few Rhinos in Meru as well as getting close to Mount Kilimanjaro, doing balloon Safari, sighting a Cheetah and cubs, seeing a lion at close range and going up the UNESCO Biosphere watch post in Amboseli, I will rate this experience 8/10. The experience in Nairobi is 6/10 as we didn't do much beyond lunch at the famous Carnivore Restaurant and going to Iziba Nite Club.
