Yellow River Estuary Ecological Tourist Area

The Yellow River Estuary Ecological Tourist Area is located at the Yellow River estuary in the northeast of Dongying. It features vast coastal mudflats and estuarine wetlands, with endless reeds and "red carpets" (suaeda salsa). This area serves as a paradise for various migratory birds, where you can observe the graceful figures of red-crowned cranes, swans, and other bird species, as well as witness the distinct color contrast where the Yellow River meets the Bohai Sea. The Yellow River Mouth Eco-Tourism Area is approx. 50 km from downtown Dongying. The attraction is very large with scattered attractions inside, so you can take the sightseeing bus (25 CNY/person) for a convenient and complete tour. The best time to visit is from April to November, with mid-early April and mid-late October being the bird migration seasons, making it ideal for birdwatching. Bird island is a vast reed wetland and a bird-watching area. It features a bird-watching corridor over 1 km long and elevated observation decks. To fully appreciate the graceful figures of migratory birds, it's recommended to bring binoculars, while photography enthusiasts should pack telephoto lenses and tripods. If visiting the attraction in spring, summer or fall, there are usually four bird release shows daily at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm in the bird release area (this activity is unavailable in winter and may be canceled in other seasons depending on weather conditions). The released birds are typically cranes, offering visitors the spectacular sight of cranes spreading their wings and flying together. The Yellow River Mouth Eco-Tourism Area boasts vast wetland vegetation. From April to August, visitors can admire the lush reed marshes and take a cruise to explore the depths of the wetlands (approximately 30 minutes). From September to November, golden reed flower fields and fiery red "red carpets" can be enjoyed. Especially in late fall, clusters of suaeda salsa (a wild plant locally called "yellow-beard vegetable") bloom with red flowers, creating a stunning crimson tapestry across the tidal flats that resembles an endless red carpet. The ancient Yellow River natural willow forest is also a major feature of the Yellow River Mouth Eco-Tourism Area. Here, the tamarisk trees grow in shrub-like formations, densely covering the marshland. You can walk along the wooden boardways winding through the willow forest to deeply experience the wetland environment, or ascend the three-story River View Pavilion to take in the panoramic view of "two" Yellow Rivers (one being the 1976-1996 river course and the other the current river path, which converge here). The last stop of the attraction, Yuanwang Tower, offers a close-up view of the Yellow River. At the cruise dock near the pontoon bridge, you can take a boat (approximately 100-minute ride) to see the boundary between the Yellow River and the Bohai Sea, with a chance to witness the unique phenomenon of "yellow river meets blue sea." However, the river-sea confluence is subject to many limiting factors. Departures depend on natural conditions such as the Yellow River's water volume, sediment levels, and sea wind strength. Additionally, each cruise requires at least 20 visitors to depart. It's recommended to ask returning visitors about visibility before boarding to make an informed decision.Dongying · 52.6 km from downtown

During summer vacation, I took my child on a road trip to Dongying, Shandong 🐉, where the Yellow River estuary meets the sea. Seeing this view is no easy feat 😤, requiring a drive along a long seawall stretching dozens of kilometers 💦. Finally, we arrived at the entrance 🎫, bought tickets, took a shuttle bus 🚌, then went to the pier ⛵️, queued to buy tickets for the boat, and finally boarded the boat to see the "Yuan Yang Hot Pot" 🍲. The journey alone took more than half a day 🕐. To be fair, the scenery is indeed spectacular, provided the weather is good ☀️, otherwise the two-tone effect isn't as pronounced.

It was very lively with children participating in a study tour. The staff on the sightseeing bus were exceptionally professional, which really exceeded my expectations. Driving here, we took the national highway, and the scenery along the way was breathtaking. The parking lot was very large, and there were so many RV travelers that you had to drive further in to find a space.

It was mainly because it was too hot, so many rides were closed. However, the venues were all open, so you could go in and cool off. I bought a pass, which was much cheaper to buy online! You can watch movies inside and learn about ancient weapons and ancient marshals.

Friendly reminder: Be sure to check the tide table in advance; you can go beachcombing for small crabs at low tide. Bring your own buckets, nets, and other tools. For dining, I recommend Yuxiangyuan Restaurant in Xianhe Town, which serves stir-fried free-range chicken, stir-fried blackfish slices, stir-fried tofu, and delicious duck egg with mung bean noodles.

The DJI took off and I could see the sea in the distance clearly. I could see clearly that the red ribbon was made up of sparse reddish salsa grasses overlapping in my sight. The sun shone on the land in western Shandong that was nourished by the Yellow River. If the sun had not given the earth this gold, if the salsa grass had not painted the earth with this rich fiery red, we would only feel desolate and lonely here. This day allowed me to get my first acquaintance with Dongying, this vast seaside town.

It is a comprehensive center integrating book collection, reading, research and exhibition. It was rated as a national 3A scenic spot in 2018. The Yellow River Cultural Center is the first "national" venue in Dongying City, with the names of the Yellow River Branch of the National Local Chronicles Center, the Dongying Local Chronicles Center and the Yellow River Cultural Museum. You only pay for the ride. It depends on your ability to dig as much as you want. It's very good. There were a lot of Gala in the past few years, but they are few and small in the past two years. It's not as good as in the past few years. Maybe the number of tourists has increased and the staff can't keep up. Wear sunscreen when you go here, otherwise you will get sunburned.
