I spent four days in Athens and specifically joined a local tour to see the Meteora. I personally think it was worth it, although it really took up a whole day. The round trip alone took almost 8 hours, and we spent about 4 hours in the Meteora. The guide gave a very enthusiastic explanation on the bus, and then we explored on our own, getting off the bus occasionally to take photos. There were only two of us, so we booked this bus tour. If you have a larger group, I think it's better to hire a car and a guide for a more flexible experience. On the way back, the bus passed through a small town near the Meteora; I think it would be a great place to spend two days and one night there.★

This is a must-visit place if you travel to Athens!! Once you pay for the ticket, you can go in and out, so it's great for taking photos of the temple during the day and again at sunset. The photo is one I took myself, and if you hold your sunglasses against the camera lens, it turns out fantastic.★

Meteora requires a small group tour as the journey is quite long, taking seven or eight hours round trip. We arrived back in Athens at 9 PM. The group lunch was decent and quite delicious. There are several meeting points in Athens; one is right next to Syntagma Square and is clearly marked. The monasteries perched on the cliffs are quite magical and worth seeing.★

The organization was good, and the guides weren't boring. I packed lunch so I wouldn't have to worry about it. All I had to pay for was drinks. First, there was a city tour by bus, then the main part of the tour was spent at the Acropolis. We didn't get to see everything in the museum; the guide said it needed more time (we didn't get to see the excavations floor). We explored Sounion on our own, and on the way to the cape, the guide told us stories about the places we passed.★
