CITIC Hot Spring is small and charming; some of the smaller pools can be closed off, allowing a group of friends to enjoy them undisturbed. The hotel itself is quite basic, with outdated facilities. There are no waterfall or mountain climbing activities available; the hotel explained that it was closed due to construction.

Nice daytrip. Train was comfortable and good seats were reserved for each person. Driver/guide was friendly, knowledgeable and a good driver. Stopped several times and showed all as advertised.

The car arrived on time, and the tour was thoughtful enough to provide a bag of snacks for guests to eat along the way. Steve (I hope I spelled his name correctly) was a fantastic tour guide – attentive, knowledgeable, caring, and didn't rush or push us at any of the attractions, yet still ensured we stayed on schedule. My biggest impression was the jet boat tour with Alpine Jet Thrills (125 NZD/person), the short track at Castle Hill/Kura Tawhiti Conservation Area, Lake Pearson, Otira Viaduct Lookout, and Devils Punchbowl Walking Track (there was an uphill and downhill section, which was a bit tiring for someone less active like me, but it was worth it). The lunch provided by the tour was simple, not particularly delicious, but convenient.
