It turns out the 2-day tour was split into two separate tours for individual travelers, so the guides were different for each day. It seems the hotel was booked through Ctrip? So the guide for the first day was completely unaware of this? The guide got off the bus and left before we even arrived at the hotel, which was quite confusing. The hotel was indeed terrible, but since it was included in the 2-day tour, it's understandable. I'd suggest choosing a one-day tour to combine the tour and then booking your own hotel. Zhouzhuang is beautiful, and the guide's explanations were good. Overall, everything was fine except for the hotel. On the first day, the guide arranged for us to have lunch at a canteen at a shopping stop? The meal was awful.
