Reviews: Jean Lafitte 90-Minute Swamp and Bayou Boat Tour

Captain Jamie was knowledgeable and definitely got the rules across in an entertaining way. We were thrilled to see wildlife, mostly alligators, but also owls, great blue cranes and bald eagles. This tour is shorter than many, so it fit into our schedule better, and it was time well spent. A fun way to see the bayou!

We had a great experience visiting Oak Alley Plantation, and a big part of it was thanks to our driver, Kin. Originally from New Orleans, he shared a lot of knowledge about the city’s history during the drive and gave us excellent recommendations for places to visit and restaurants to try. He was truly great and very professional. I highly recommend him! His vehicle was also very comfortable, which made the trip even more enjoyable. As for Oak Alley itself, the visit is interesting for anyone who wants to see the inside of a former slaveholder’s house, as both the mansion and the grounds are very well preserved. The guided tour of the house is paid, but access to the gardens and the former slave quarters is free. If your main interest is learning more about the lives of enslaved people, I would recommend visiting Whitney Plantation instead, as it offers a deeper and more focused perspective on that history.

I had a great time on the swamp tour. We got to see alligators, cranes, egrets, pelicans, and the scenery was amazing with its old oak trees, native plant species, and the trees with the Spanish moss were beautiful. The boat was comfortable the captain informative. I did the 1045 am tour. There was a short ride to the docks and we boarded at 12. There is a There is a photo op with choice of purchase, a gift shop everything is reasonably priced, and they have a live albino alligator. Alligators don’t come out until it’s warmer so next time, I’ll do the afternoon tour, but otherwise it was great. Highly recommend. Our bus driver Alton was the best!

Great to enjoy a view of the city from the river and visit such a historical site at the Battlefield of New Orleans.

Wonderful adventure exploring the swamp with my husband. We got an up close alligator experience as our captain took us to meet his swamp friends. Our captain even got to give his favorite gator a smooch. There were probably 20 or 30 different gators that popped up to say hello and get their daily dose of "swamp crack", colloquially know as marshmallows for those who aren't familiar. I definitely recommend this tour. We booked the adventure the morning of and the staff were so kind to let us reschedule for the next day as we did not read the fine print that return transportation (taxi/Uber/Lyft) is unavailable in the area (may have been an artifact of no cellular reception, or this was the case for me anyway). The tour provided transportation was an additional $30 per person (round trip) and ended up being cheaper than the Lyft I had originally tried to book to get there. The price for the Lyft just for the way there would have been $42. Either way, Air Boat #17 was second to none.
