Reviews: Hokkaido Biei & Furano Flower Fields Day Tour from Sapporo: Shikisai-no-Oka(Ticket Included), Farm Tomita, Blue Pond & Shirahige Waterfall (Optional: 9-Pax Small Group / Hotel Pick-up)

On July 19, 2026, I took a day trip. I had booked a large bus tour, but due to insufficient participants, I was upgraded to a smaller car tour for free, and luckily, I even got to sit in the front passenger seat. There were nine people in the group, half of whom were foreigners. Our driver and guide, Mimi, was a young woman from Beijing. She was fluent in both Japanese and English, very knowledgeable, and a skilled driver. She also cleverly avoided peak-hour parking queues (it was a three-day weekend in Japan, so there were many cars). The experience was excellent. The weather was also nice, mostly cloudy, with rain only at the end of our visit to Shikisai-gaoka. Although the lavender in Furano was almost finished blooming, and other flowers weren't in full bloom, on a sunny summer day, Biei felt like a scene from a manga.

This itinerary is too long to explore on your own, so a day trip is a good option. One and a half hours each for Shikisai-no-oka and Furano is generally enough; half an hour for the Blue Pond and 20 minutes for Shirahige Falls felt rushed – basically just enough time to climb up, take a few photos, and the time was up. We took a minibus with the driver, which had 10 seats. The bus was a bit old but quite clean. However, the legroom was limited, making it difficult to stretch out, and the two-and-a-half-hour journey was a bit tiring! The driver was a steady driver and a nice guy; he was from Northeast China.

The season was a bit wrong, it was too cold, but the ski resort was still pretty good.

These places are only accessible by day tours, by self-driving, hiring a car, or renting a vehicle. The Japanese countryside is beautiful, and the scenery along the way is stunning! You can see volcanoes and autumn rice paddies. These past few days have been filled with blue skies and white clouds—so soothing! Autumn in Furano is breathtaking! The tour guide was excellent! A bilingual guide in Chinese and English, plus Japanese to communicate with locals. There were so many tourists from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea at these places! I must say, the Japanese are incredibly punctual! They always depart on time!

Furano, the colorful hills of the four seasons, Shirahige Falls—a very fulfilling day.

The tour was conducted in English by a Chinese guide based in Sapporo. We also mistakenly booked an English guide, and while communication wasn't difficult enough, the explanations of the tour locations seemed a bit lacking. However, the guide was cheerful, drove safely, and was kind.
