Reviews: Xishuangbanna mushroom picking 1-day tour: Hani guide + special hearth meal + tea picking and making
Guest User2026-11-02
It was quite interesting. It was the children's first experience. A Hani family was in charge of the tour. First, there was a sacred fire ceremony, followed by a lesson in making glutinous rice cakes. We carried small bamboo baskets up the mountain, where two young Hani men led us mushroom picking. The mountain was full of wild Pu'er tea; you could pick just one bud and two leaves. The young men grew up in the mountains, and even though the rainy season was over, it was still easy to find mushrooms. They said there were pythons, king cobras, bamboo pit vipers, hedgehogs, wild boars, tigers, and other animals on the mountain. Luckily, we didn't encounter any. After descending the mountain, we had lunch. They prepared roasted pork, roasted fish, vegetables, and chicken soup in a clay pot. The roasted meat buffet was quite delicious. Then we sampled the tea. Nannuo Mountain is known as the world's number one Pu'er village, full of Pu'er trees, some of which are 100 to 800 years old. The tea we tasted on-site was quite good, and we bought two cakes. It was worth the warm hospitality of the Hani men. The children also tried making milk tea, which was also quite delicious. Overall, it was a very good experience. The driver was also great; he was from Heilongjiang, a fellow Northeasterner, and had excellent driving skills. Northeasterners are naturally humorous and very friendly.
