The internet is okay, but the signal is weak in some areas in Kyoto. We bought 2GB per day, but it wasn't enough. Every day, it runs out at 5 PM. After it runs out, it's incredibly slow, making it almost impossible to do anything. If you're using it a lot to browse maps, use Instagram or TikTok, I recommend 5GB per day. It's better to have some extra than not enough, because it can be really difficult to search without internet.

I recently traveled to Fukuoka and used the IIJmio 4G eSIM from the DOCOMO network in Japan, and the experience was fantastic! The signal was stable, and the internet speed was fast whether on the subway, in shopping malls, or in the suburbs. Browsing, navigation, and watching videos were all perfect. Activation was simple; just scan a QR code. Their customer service hotline was especially commendable; the response was incredibly fast. For any minor issues, I chatted with them via Trip.com, and within a minute, a staff member patiently and professionally resolved the problem in English. The price was also reasonable, making it excellent value for money. I will definitely use IIJmio eSIM again next time I'm in Japan, and I highly recommend it!

I purchased an 8-day eSIM, and it was stable throughout my trip to Fukuoka, including visits to Ito-majima and Dazaifu. It automatically switched to 5G when there was a 5G signal and 4G when there wasn't. The only time I encountered a very weak signal was in a basement restroom in a shopping mall; it was fine once I left, which was due to the mall's antenna coverage and not related to the eSIM. I installed the eSIM in China the day before departure. During installation, it might show an activation failure message, but that's normal. Wait until you can access the eSIM card and then turn it off. Once in Japan, activate it again and switch your cellular data to eSIM. It uses a local IP address, so you don't need to enable data roaming. You can also create a hotspot. The whole experience was smooth, and the price was reasonable. Highly recommended!
