Nujiang Grand Canyon is located in the "Three Parallel Rivers" region of the Hengduan Mountains in northwestern Yunnan. It is a long, narrow canyon carved by the Nujiang River between theGaoligong Mountainsand Biluo Snow Mountain, both of which exceed 4,000 m in altitude. The Yunnan section stretches over 300 km, with a canyon depth mostly around 2,000 m and narrow sections only a few dozen meters wide, earning it the name "Oriental Grand Canyon"; the area aroundBingzhongluo in Gongshanis deeply incised, with a height difference between the mountains and the river surface reaching 3,000–4,000 m, making it one of the most precipitous parts of the entire route. The sights of this canyon are not limited to its high mountains and deep valleys. Traveling north from Liuku, the gateway at the southern end, you will encounter attractions all along the way: the "Stone Moon" atop theGaoligong Mountainsin Fugong is a massive hole eroded into the marble, visible from dozens of kilometers away with daylight shining through it; the The First Bend of the Nujiang River nearBingzhongluo in Gongshanfeatures the river making a sharp turn into a semicircular bay after being blocked by sheer cliffs, with a pastoral peninsula surrounded by water on three sides at its center; not far away, the sheer cliffs of Shimen Pass stand on both sides of the river, creating a perilous landscape. Traces of the Ancient Tea Horse Road still remain on the cliff walls along the river; this ancient road once connected Yunnan with Tibet along the canyon. More than 20 ethnic groups, including the Lisu, Nu, Drung, and Pumi, live on both sides of the canyon. Among them, the Nu and Drung people have lived in this canyon for generations, maintaining simple and traditional folk customs. In winter, the snow-capped mountains on both sides of the canyon are covered in silver, and as the Nujiang River enters the dry season, its water becomes blue-green and calm, while the climate at the bottom of the valley remains mild. The sight of snow-capped mountains framed with lush green fields is a rare scene elsewhere.Fugong · 23.3 km from downtown

On the peak of 3300 meters in the middle section of Gaoligong Mountain, there is a huge penetrating hole formed by dissolution of marble. The hole is 100 meters deep, 40 meters wide and 60 meters high. It goes north along the Nujiang River, a hundred miles away. You can see this cave with white clouds and blue sky. It seems to have created the world and stood there. In the ancient myth of the Great Flood of the Lisu people, it already existed. The Lisu language calls it "Ahaba", which means stone moon.Fugong · 30.3 km from downtown

"Laomdeng" is a Bai language, meaning "the place where the purple bamboo grows". The Old Mudeng Church is the largest church in the Nujiang Gorge. The blue brick walls, red lacquered wooden windows, and tin roofs are simple and simple, showing the purity and piety of people's beliefs. As early as 1902, French missionaries began to cross the Biluo Snow Mountain from the Cizhong area and came to the Nujiang area to preach and established many churches. Old Mden Church is the larger of them. From the outside, the church is not spectacular. There are no common stained glass windows, domes, and iconic Gothic spires. There are not even musical instruments such as an organ. There are only benches and red lacquered wood windows. But this does not hinder people's piety. Every Sunday, believers in the surrounding villages will gather here to worship.Fugong · 39 km from downtown

Biluo Snow Mountain is the remnant of the Simalaya Mountains and belongs to the Hengduan Mountains. The climate in the mountains is abnormal, the waterfalls are dense, and the mountains and lakes are gathered. It is called the mountain of thousands of waterfalls and thousands of lakes. At the turn of spring and summer, the clouds and mists rise in the mountains, and it is quite spectacular to climb to the moutain to watch the rising sun or the setting sun. The Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Haba Snow Mountain, Jinsichang Snow Mountain, Laojun Mountain and Sepang Mountain in the east are like a sea of waves in the sea of clouds. From the beginning of summer to the end of autumn, the snow in Biluo Snow Mountain does not melt. Even in the midsummer, rain and hail are mixed with heavy snowfall as soon as the sky is overcast. Therefore, there are abundant water sources. There are 24 rivers with a flow rate of more than 0.5 cubic meters per second, which flow eastward into the Lancang River. Stone terraces When land is extremely scarce, crops can be grown by covering stones with soil. If you don’t see it with your own eyes, you really can’t believe that there are many families living in the mountains on both sides of the Nujiang Grand Canyon. It is said that there are more than 20 ethnic groups. There are only rivers and mountains here. The means of production are extremely scarce. A little bit of land can gather dozens of families. Now, all the people here have escaped poverty, and the transportation is convenient. Hundreds of bridges have appeared on the Nujiang River. It is really a magnificent scene!

The air in Laomudeng is particularly good. There are Nu, Lisu, Bai and other ethnic groups here. The mountains are shrouded in clouds and mist, which is particularly beautiful like a fairyland. There is a Christian church, and you can also taste the local specialties, stone slab baba and roasted suckling pig, and drink Lisu Tongxin wine. It is now also known as the most beautiful village in China.

Zhiziluo is a very peculiar village. Locals still call it "Bijiang". It is also the "abandoned city" in the legends of many travelers. "Zhiziluo" means "good place" in Lisu language. It is an ancient Nu ethnic group settlement. Before 1974, Zhiziluo was the seat of the Nujiang Prefecture and before 1986, it was the seat of the original Bijiang County Government. It has the advantage of a well-connected geographical location and occupies the throat of the Nujiang Gorge. However, the slope here is too large. In the mid-1980s, the geological department conducted a survey based on the increasingly severe landslides and finally concluded that there was a possibility of large-scale landslides in Zhiziluo, and the city was destroyed and people died. In December 1986, Bijiang County was abolished, and Zhiziluo was deserted. Many years have passed, and the predicted disaster has not yet occurred. The new buildings of that year have become dilapidated and some villagers have moved into houses that have been empty for a long time. The houses here are fixed in the appearance of the county town in the 1970s and 1980s, so it is called the "City of Memory".

Driving along the G219 Nujiang section, the Secret Bay Viewpoint is an unmissable rest stop along the way. It's free and accessible directly from your vehicle, eliminating the need for a long hike, making it perfect for a break during a long road trip. Standing here, you can see the Nujiang River gently curving a beautiful bend between the mountains, its emerald green waters quietly winding through the valleys. On the opposite bank, Lisu villages are nestled in dense forests, while the majestic Gaoligong Mountains stand tall in the distance. In the early morning, a thin mist rises slowly from the river, veiling the mountains and water in a hazy, picturesque scene. At dusk, the setting sun casts its warm golden rays across the canyon, bathing the river, suspension bridge, and riverbank in stunning photos, requiring no filter. Here, there are no crowds, no noisy shops; only the sound of the rushing river and the mountain wind rustling through the forest. You can stroll along the riverside boardwalk or simply sit quietly by the river and let your mind wander. Don't just rush through your drive; take a break at Secret Bay and immerse yourself in the tranquil beauty of the Nujiang Grand Canyon. On the west bank of the Nujiang River, in the middle section of Gaoligong Mountain, at an altitude of more than 3,360 meters, on a mountain peak that towers into the clouds, there is a large hole formed by the erosion of marble rocks. It passes through the stone, is more than 40 meters wide and 60 meters high, and is shaped like a huge sphere. The Lisu language calls it "Ahaba", which means stone moon. The stone moon is surrounded by cliffs and is unfathomable. There are three ancient dead trees in front of it. The wind blows on the top of the mountain. Standing on the top of the mountain, the Nujiang River flows under your feet, and the Biluo Snow Mountain in the east is silent. This rugged mountain road can only be reached with courage, perseverance and persistence, and after wind and rain. Therefore, for a long time, many young Lisu lovers have regarded this place as a place to confess their love, "If you love me, take me to the top of the mountain", expressing their loyalty beside the moon stone. In recent years, Fugong County has built the Shiyueliang Hiking Trail, which starts at the Zipline Square on the East Bank of the Nujiang River in Shiyueliang Township. The trail is 13.4 kilometers long, with a single-side long line of 9 kilometers and a short line of 7 kilometers. Along the way, there are beautiful natural scenery, rich ethnic customs, and good geological conditions. It is a mature hiking route.

The Laomudeng Church is not very big. The Laomudeng Village, located halfway up the Biluo Snow Mountain, is enough to witness the hardships and tenacity of the missionaries back then. The Laomudeng Village has beautiful scenery. When we arrived, although the weather was bad and it was raining, the whole village was shrouded in clouds and mist, giving people a hazy feeling. It is still worth a visit...

Biluo Snow Mountain is a remnant of the Western Malay Mountains. It is the boundary between Gongshan County and Deqin County of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and the watershed between Nujiang River and Lancang River. The top of the mountain is covered with snow and stretches for several kilometers, which is extremely beautiful. The story in the movie "Biluo Snow Mountain" took place at the foot of Biluo Snow Mountain.
