Gero Onsen

63 reviews
Gero Onsen is located in Gero City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. It is known as one of the "Three Famous Hot Springs in Japan" along with Arima Onsen in Hyogo Prefecture and Kusatsu Onsen in Gunma Prefecture, and has a history of thousands of years. The hot spring water is a weakly alkaline simple spring, colorless and transparent, rich in minerals, and has the effect of relieving neuralgia, joint pain and beautifying the skin. It is known as the "Beauty Hot Spring". The hot spring town is built along the Hida River and is surrounded by green mountains. The scenery varies in each season: spring cherry blossoms, summer greens, autumn maples, and winter snows, attracting many tourists. The local area retains traditional Japanese style, and most of the hotels are wooden structures, providing kaiseki cuisine and hot spring experiences. At night, you can also enjoy the lantern night view of the "Gero Onsen Festival". Gero Onsen is conveniently located, and it takes about 2 hours by train from Nagoya. Gero Onsen combines nature, history and healing, and is a hot spring resort that cannot be missed in central Japan.Gero · 429m from downtown

Gassho-style refers to a special form of Japanese houses. It is a wooden structure and does not need a nail during construction. Because the roof is in the shape of a herringbone, it is shaped like a person's hands clasped together, so it is called gassho. There are various gassho buildings in Gero Onsen Gassho Village, you can enjoy it slowly, and if you are tired, you can relax in the hot springs.Gero · 573m from downtown

Gero is home to many hot spring spots, and Yunoshimakan is one of the more famous ones. Tucked away in the mountains and surrounded by forests, it offers a rustic, natural setting that makes it a great place for a relaxing getaway. Yunoshimakan provides very attentive service. The staff are mostly older, yet they are incredibly humble and warm, offering helpful introductions to everything, including how to wear a yukata. Soaking in the hot springs here is a delightful experience, and it is well worth staying the night.Gero · 706m from downtown

Gero Onsen is an alkaline, simple hot spring with a pH above 9, creating a silky, soft water. This spring's natural exfoliating and cleansing properties leave skin feeling incredibly smooth and refined, earning it the nickname "beauty bath" or "beautifying skin bath." Upon entering the bath, the water feels slippery, coated in a thin layer of jelly, a truly delightful experience.

Located between Hida City and the world heritage site of Shirakawa-go, the Tensho Prefectural Nature Park is about 20 minutes by car from Shirakawa-go and 30 minutes from Hida City. It is a primeval forest with huge beech trees. The Tensho Forest, which is closed for about half a year due to snow, gradually becomes green from June every year, and the breath of life can be felt everywhere in the forest. After entering September, the jacaranda trees in the park also emit a faint caramel fragrance, telling passers-by that autumn is approaching, and the red leaves also appear in brilliant red as if they want to burn the mountaintops.

I had a great impression of Gero Onsen Hotel. It was better to walk around the hotel without going out than to visit many attractions. Gero Onsen is said to be one of the three most famous hot springs in Japan. There are also many foot baths in the town. If you feel cold after walking, soaking your feet will make you feel full of energy! !

Nice park, a lot of entertainment, but we happened to go on a Sunday and it was extremely crowded. An upside is that you can buy a pass, which is rather affordable, and it can help you experience more in one day. We bought passes for 2 attractions, and even with them were not able to attend everything, which was a pity, cause we spent most of the day queuing. I guess the situation is different on weekdays.

Shibuya Sky was easily one of my favourite experiences in Tokyo, and I would definitely recommend it over other observation decks in the city. The views are incredible, and the atmosphere at night is immaculate. I got lucky and managed to grab an 8 PM slot after repeatedly checking for availability, as tickets tend to sell out very quickly, especially around sunset. If you visit during the day on a clear day, you can even see Mount Fuji. The price is very reasonable for the experience, and getting in was easy and straightforward. The signs were clear, and I didn't have to wait too long. I ended up spending almost two hours up there, enjoying the views and just relaxing. My biggest tip is to book as soon as tickets become available, especially if you want the sunset slot. It's absolutely worth it!
