Glenorchy's Chinese name translates to Glenorchy. Located on the north bank of Lake Wakatipu, just 45 minutes from Queenstown, it is the gateway to many hiking trails and the magical world of Middle-earth. 1. An outdoor lover's paradise This rustic town is a veritable outdoor lover's paradise. Surrounded by native beech forests and towering mountains, Glenorchy's surroundings are never lacking in excitement. Stunning Lake Wakatipu and the Dart River offer plenty of options for jet boating and kayaking, and it's a popular base for New Zealand's many walking trails. Horseback riding is also one of the most popular activities here. 2. The spectacular scenery of Glenorchy, the filming location of "The Lord of the Rings", has made it a filming location for blockbusters. The "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "The Chronicles of Narnia" have been shot here in large numbers. Twenty kilometers from Glenorchy, as idyllic farmland is gradually replaced by beech forest, we come to the town of Paradise. The origins of the name vary, with some saying it got its name from the natural charm of the place, while others say it got its name from the ducks of paradise that inhabit it. No one can be sure of the origin of its name, but the suffocating natural beauty here has been unanimously recognized by everyone. . "This is the Middle-earth I've always fantasized about," Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) said of Paradise.Glenorchy · 172m from downtown

Sky Gondola Overlook If you are in Queenstown, you can choose to take the Sky Gondola to overlook Lake Wakatipu. The Sky Gondola sits at the top of Bobt's Peak in Queenstown, a great place to overlook downtown Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu and the mountains beyond. 2. Steamboat cruise The TSS Earnslaw steamship cruise on Lake Wakatipu is undoubtedly one of the ways to enjoy the beautiful scenery, so that you can not only appreciate the lake and mountains more closely, but also feel the tranquility and serenity of the lake, and enjoy the shocking experience. The breathtaking scenery and the opportunity to enjoy a delicious barbecue and experience the authentic New Zealand culture. The TSS Earnslaw steamship will cross Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak High Country Farm (Walter Peak High Country Farm). You'll enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch at the ranch or dinner at Colonel's Homestead restaurant and watch a unique farm show. 3. The neighboring Gibbston Valley (Gibbston Valley) has more than 70 wineries, producing a variety of wines, especially Pinot Noir. You can sign up for AppellationCentral WineTours' daily wine tasting tour, which includes visits to 4 wineries, wine tasting, and lunch. At the end of the lake is a place called Glenorchy, the town of The Lord of the Rings. The town is very quiet, there are only sporadic tourists by the lake, and the small bridge in the lake attracts many tourists.Walter Peak · 29 km from Glenorchy

Known as the "Princess on the Lake", the TSS Earnslaw steamship (TSSEarnslaw) was born in 1912 - a golden age in the history of steamships including the world-famous cruise ship "Titanic" . Today, as a coal-fired ferry, she has sailed for 100 years and is a fascinating sight on Lake Wakatipu, transporting you back in time and enjoying the gorgeous European style of the early 20th century. The Skyline sits on top of Bobt's Peak in Queenstown, a location overlooking downtown Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu and the mountains beyond. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the city to the cable car ride point, and take the cable car in the southern hemisphere to the top of the mountain. Shotover Jet Queenstown

Shotover Jet Queenstown is the iconic speedboating experience in Queenstown, operating continuously in the Shotover Canyon since the 1960s and having hosted millions of travelers. It is also the only commercial speedboat company permitted to operate in this section of the canyon river. The river channel was formed by years of erosion from rapid currents, with nearly vertical rock walls on both sides enclosing the water surface. Located less than a ten-minute drive from Queenstown town center, it is now owned and operated by the local Māori tribe, Ngāi Tahu, whose ancestors once traveled this waterway to gather food and greenstone. The bright red speedboats are locally built in Queenstown, specifically designed for the canyon river. Each boat can carry over ten passengers and is powered by twin V8 engines, using jet propulsion for movement, steering, and control—allowing it to skim at speeds of nearly 90 km/h in water as shallow as approx. 10 cm. The entire experience lasts approx. 25 minutes, featuring continuous sharp turns and cliff-hugging maneuvers from the moment you depart the dock. Skilled drivers take you at high speed through whitewater rapids and tight bends, performing thrilling close-to-the-wall stunts, including the signature 360-degree spin at full throttle, sending water splashing into your face as if the boat has lifted off the surface. Life jackets and storage lockers are provided on board. As the spins generate significant splashes, it is advisable to prepare to get wet. During colder seasons, extra attention to warmth is recommended.Queenstown · 27 km from Glenorchy

RealNZ | Walter Peak High Country Farm is located on the southwest shore of Lake Wakatipu on New Zealand's South Island, facing Queenstown across the lake. Visitors typically take a boat from Queenstown wharf, with the approximately 45-minute lake cruise itself being a scenic journey. This highland farm has been settled by European immigrants since the second half of the 19th century, with its peak period spanning tens of thousands of hectares of pasture and tens of thousands of sheep. The Colonel's Homestead by the lake, built in 1902 with white walls and a red roof surrounded by garden lawns, resembles a fairytale castle from afar. The farm maintains authentic highland ranch activities: travelers can hand-feed shaggy Scottish Highland cattle with curved horns, as well as merino sheep, alpacas, and red deer; watch trained sheepdogs expertly herd flocks on the slopes, then catch a traditional sheep-shearing show at the outdoor theater. Those who enjoy riding can join a guide for a leisurely ride along the lakeside peninsula. After exploring, visitors can relax at the lakeside café with freshly baked English scones and hot tea. Backed by Walter Peak and facing the azure lake, the farm offers panoramic views of Queenstown and surrounding mountains - perfect for family-friendly outings and travelers seeking authentic New Zealand farm culture. As mountain weather changes quickly, remember to bring a windproof jacket.Queenstown · 29.4 km from Glenorchy

A very unique steamship, still providing excellent service despite being over a century old. There are Chinese staff on board, and the buffet restaurant on the other side is quite good. Enjoy a relaxed and pleasant time in Queenstown.

Skydiving is super fun, 15,000 feet, the free fall feels like life is free! The package comes with a handheld camera, with photos and videos. After the jump, it will be sent directly to your email for you to download. It takes about 20 minutes to drive to the base.

The Skyline Gondola is the highest point in Queenstown, offering panoramic views of the town and the lake, a completely different experience from looking down from below. Lunch was also a good experience; the lamb chops were delicious. Many people say the menu isn't extensive, but most restaurants there serve similar dishes, so they're generally not that different. The main advantage was that I got a buy-one-get-one-free ticket, so lunch was essentially free.

It was definitely worth it. The driver was very passionate about his job, performing several 360-degree spins and speeding between cliffs – it was incredibly thrilling. There's also a bar and restaurant nearby with a great atmosphere and good value for money.

Paradise Town in Glenorchy is a quiet town on the shore of Lake Wanaka. The houses here are all wooden structures, there are no tall buildings, and there are large lawns between the houses, which looks very open and quiet. The air here is very fresh, making people feel very relaxed and comfortable. It is definitely a warm and cozy town that is not in conflict with the world, and it deserves the beautiful name of Paradise Town.

The Dart River is a very calm and beautiful river in Glenorchy. On both sides of the river are towering mountains and dense forests. The river water is very clear and there are many rare fish living here. You can take a raft or bamboo raft to tour the entire river, which must be a very good travel experience.

The environment is very dreamy. I think it is worth the money. But the bad thing is that children are not allowed to enter at night. I don't know why. But overall it is still a good experience.

From the first floor of the steamship, you can see how the steam is generated, and there are people responsible for burning coal. To be honest, the buffet wasn't very good; the dishes were mainly beef, lamb, and pork, with a small amount of vegetables and desserts. There wasn't enough variety or variety. However, the view and ambiance were excellent. The sheep shearing show was great; the staff worked very hard, which was commendable. However, it wasn't particularly entertaining. Overall, it's good for enjoying the scenery. If you book the BBQ meal, the meal lasts nearly 4 hours. It's worth experiencing.
