Basilica of Bom Jesus was built in 1605 and is a typical example of Baroque architecture, housing the remains of the great historical missionary St. Francis. The interior of the church is spacious, with a golden color scheme that looks very grand. It features marble floors inlaid with precious stones, and the central altar is exquisitely decorated. The tomb of St. Francis is located on the right, and the casket containing his remains is made of pure silver. In addition, there is an art gallery on the 2nd floor of the church where you can see works by local artists from Goa.

Even in high season, there are nowhere near as many tourists as the northern beaches, so it's not overcrowded. For purer silence, head south along the coast to the less populated Patnem Beach. It's important to note that many of the recreational facilities in Palolem Beach only open in November.
