Wuzu Temple is located on Dongshan Mountain, 16 km north of the county seat of Huangmei, Hubei Province. Also known as Dongshan Temple, it was built in the 5th year of the Yonghui era of the Tang Dynasty (654). It is the seat of the fifth patriarch of Chinese Zen Buddhism and the place where the sixth patriarch, Huineng, received the Dharma and the robe and bowl. It was bestowed the imperial title "Ancestral Temple of the World." Emperor Xuanzong of Tang ordered the construction of the Wuzu Temple and renamed it "Dazhong Dongshan Temple." Emperor Wenzong of Yuan bestowed the Dharma name "Miaoyuan Pujue Chan Master" and renamed it "Dongshan Wuzu Temple," abbreviated as Wuzu Temple. This name has been used ever since. Wuzu Temple boasts beautiful scenery and numerous historical sites. Over the centuries, the temple has experienced many vicissitudes. It was destroyed in the 4th year of the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty (1854), with only a dozen temple buildings and some historical sites remaining. The temple and its historical sites have been well preserved. In 1985, Wuzu Temple was approved as an important temple in the Han Chinese region.Huangmei · 13 km from downtown

Qingchuan Pavilion is located on Hanyang's Tortoise Mountain and faces the Yangtze River, across the river from the Yellow Crane Tower. Qingchuan Pavilion was built in the Ming Dynasty and was named after the Tang Dynasty poet Cui Wei. The pavilion as it exists today was rebuilt in the 1980s according to historical photos. The scenic area consists of three main buildings: Qingchuan Pavilion, Wuhan Dayu's Palace, and Tiemenguan. There are also a number of other attractions such as various stone tablets and monuments, decorated archways, and cloisters, all rich in classical Chinese charm. It is very pleasant to climb up to the pavilion, feel the wind from the river, and enjoy the view of the river. The classical architecture and the greenery here complement each other perfectly, and the beautiful scenery has caused this to become a popular spot for wedding pictures in Wuhan.China · Wuhan

The ancient city of Huizhou is located in Shexian County.LianjiangNorth Bank, originally built in the Qin Dynasty, became the seat of the ancient Huizhou Prefecture after the Tang Dynasty. Tang Xianzu's line, "My life's most cherished dream, yet I never dreamt of Huizhou," has captivated countless hearts. There are several roads leading into the ancient city, and it doesn't really matter which road you choose. The ancient city isn't very big; you can visit all the main attractions by walking around. It's near Renhe Tower in the north.Huiyuan GardenTicket offices are available at both the Nanqiao Tower and the Duojingyuan visitors Center outside the southern barbican. Among the several city gates of Huizhou Ancient City, the Nanqiao Tower is quite unique, with 13 pairs of pillars forming the gate frame, arranged in a row inside the gate opening to support the tower. It is said that this "row of pillars" is the authentic city gate style of the Northern Song Dynasty. The Xu Guo Stone Archway, located inside the East Watchtower (Yanghe Gate), is the essence of the entire ancient city, built in the twelfth year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1584 AD). The archway has eight pillars, with a cross-section shaped like the Chinese character "口" (kou), creating a three-dimensional structure. Both the four exterior and four interior sides can be viewed. Twelve stone lions guard the base of the pillars, and the upper part features exquisite stone carvings. Currently, this is the only ancient archway of its kind, highlighting the distinguished status of its owner, Xu Guo, a veteran of three reigns. Many attractions in the ancient city radiate from the Xu Guo Stone Archway. To the west, you can visit the Huizhou Prefectural Government Office, a modern reconstruction modeled after the Ming Dynasty government office; to the east, you can visit the memorial hall of Tao Xingzhi, a native of Shexian County; and to the north, you can visit...Huiyuan Garden, butHuiyuan GardenThe area is filled with antique-style buildings. Sanhe Ancient Town

4.4k reviews
Sanhe Ancient Town is situated at the southern tip of Feixi County in Hefei, where the Fengle River, Hangbu River, and Xiaonan River converge. The town derives its name from these three waterways, with the name "Sanhe" appearing as early as the Ming Dynasty and officially becoming Sanhe Town during the Qing Dynasty. In 1858, Taiping Rebellion generals Chen Yucheng and Li Xiucheng achieved a decisive victory over the Xiang Army here, historically known as the "Great Victory of Sanhe." The triumphal arch at the town entrance, Yingwang Mansion, and ancient city walls still bear witness to this turbulent period. The old bluestone-paved streets stretch along the river, lined with contiguous Huizhou-style residences featuring gray brick walls and soaring horse-head gables, blending water-town alleys with Huizhou-style markets seamlessly. Most tours begin at Sanxian Bridge in the town center. To its northwest stands the seven-story Guocui Tower, offering panoramic views of the town and displaying Huizhou artifacts like sedan chairs, inscribed tablets, carved beds, and stone carvings. Nearby, the Dafu Mansion (Sanhe Folk Museum) recreates an official residence's hall with exquisite wood carvings, including an oversized abacus over one meter long. Northeast of the bridge, Xiangu Tower is a Huizhou-style temple funded by merchants including the owner of the time-honored pastry shop "Zhonghexiang." Heading north along the east bank of Xiaonan River leads to ancient West Street, paved with bluestones and once bustling with shops—Liutongxinglongzhuang still maintains its original commercial layout. South along the west bank brings you to Quezhu Covered Bridge, named after Sanhe's ancient moniker "Quezhu," featuring a two-tiered eaves corridor with "beauty's seat" railings perfect for resting and enjoying the waterfront. The southern area around Old South Street and Wannian Street clusters notable former residences, including those of physicist Chen-Ning Yang, general Sun Liren, and Helu. During the Anti-Japanese War, young Chen-Ning Yang sheltered here with his family. Nearby, the famous "One-Person Alley" narrows to barely accommodate a single visitor, making it a popular photo spot. Further south stand Wannian Temple, Chenghuang Temple, and the historic Wannian Stage—Sanhe being the birthplace of Lu Opera, whose authentic melodies often grace the stage during festivals. Local snacks concentrate near Sanxian Bridge: freshly fried Sanhe rice dumplings with crispy shells, shrimp paste, crispy duck, and various river delicacies represent regional cuisine, while tea-flavored dried tofu makes for perfect street-side nibbling. Rice wine and feather fans serve as portable souvenirs. In 2026, Sanhe became a key filming location for CCTV's Spring Festival Gala Hefei segment, with its night scenes of a thousand fish lanterns captivating nationwide audiences.China · Feixi

Suojiang Tower is located on the bank of the Yangtze River in Jiujiang city. When you take a boat into Jiujiang waters, the pagoda of Suojiang Tower (Wenfeng Tower) will come into view. Therefore, Suojiang Tower has become the symbol of Jiujiang. The Suojiang Tower originally had one floor and one tower. In the 14th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1586), Wu Xiu, the then governor of Jiujiang County, raised funds to build the Suojiang Tower on Huilongji, near the river in Jiujiang, in order to prevent flooding. At that time, it was called Jiangtian Suoyao Tower, which was three stories high. There were four iron bulls next to the tower to suppress water. Later, a 25.26-meter-high pagoda was built in the south of the tower, named Wenfeng Tower, also known as Huilong Tower. There is a wooden ladder in the tower that can spiral up. It was destroyed and restored several times. After liberation, the Suojiang Tower was rebuilt on the original site, covering an area of 18,000 square meters. Two new bronze bulls were cast between the Jiujiang Yangtze River Bridge and the Wenfeng Tower. Each bull is 3.1 meters long, 2.7 meters high, 1.5 meters wide, and weighs 1.5 tons, once again recreating the historical features of the Suojiang Tower with its towers leaning against each other and the bronze bulls suppressing water.Jiujiang · 37.5 km from Huangmei

You need to drive yourself, the road up the mountain is very beautiful. The buildings in the temple are reconstructions from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to modern times. Some ancient trees and ancient towers are more than a thousand years old. The contemporary buildings next to it are also worth stopping. The ancient mountain road behind the temple can be reached at the half-mountain pavilion. The building on the top of the mountain is in an unfinished state. Parking is free, the scenic area is free, and there are not many tourists.

Located in Dahe Town, Huangmei County, it is the dojo of the fourth patriarch of Zen Buddhism, Master Daoxin. It covers a large area. Except for the surrounding Vimalakirti Pagoda and Lingrun Bridge, which are old buildings, most of the others are newly built. There are not many pilgrims. It does not seem like a place to burn incense and worship Buddha, but more like a pure academy for practice. Buddhist summer camps have been held many times before, but they have been suspended in recent years due to the epidemic. However, there are still many lay Buddhists who live and practice here for a long time. The whole temple is spacious and grand, with a strong academic atmosphere.

This is a place with a story. We visited to learn about its history and to teach the children. There was a Sichuan opera face-changing performance, but I don't know why Jiujiang would include it. Then there was a brief explanation of the origin of Song Jiang's rebellious poem. The last part was what I found most distasteful: a former calligrapher wrote some calligraphy. He kept saying it wasn't for sale, only for the audience member who cheered the loudest. I immediately recognized the sales tactic. What I disliked was that during the May Day holiday, people from all over brought their children to visit. The children were innocent and focused, listening intently and looking forward to it. When you tell them it's a scam, it's negative, and they won't leave until the end. In the end, it was obvious they wouldn't give it away for free; they charged 200 yuan for the writing. In other words, the calligraphy was written and given away for free; the artwork wasn't actually framed, just a simple scroll with the writing on it. They charged 200 yuan to the viewers. Finally, the children realized it was a scam, learned a lesson about society, and left unhappy. This part was definitely a mistake in this old historical building. Society has developed; even selling calligraphy and paintings using this tactic is outdated. If they had just added more creative souvenirs, fridge magnets, and ice cream, the price would probably have been higher than this, even with more tourists.

The exhibited artifacts were quite good; I've also been to joint exhibitions organized by museums like the Hunan Provincial Museum. The Kremlin artifacts here are well-prepared and thoughtfully designed. However, the souvenir and merchandise section was rather boring. I was thinking of buying a pendant or something, but that saved me some money.

The scenic area is filled with the fragrance of osmanthus blossoms. From the top, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Yangtze River Bridge and the Yellow Crane Tower. At the very top, watching the ships on the Yangtze and the cars and trains on the bridge, with the breeze blowing, is very pleasant, and it's not too crowded. The scenic area isn't large; a leisurely hour is about right to appreciate the scenery. Qingchuan Pavilion and Guishan Scenic Area are directly connected by the Iron Gate Pass, which leads to the West Gate of Guishan. Climbing the mountain and enjoying the breeze and osmanthus fragrance is a wonderful experience.

The Huizhou Prefectural Government Office truly lives up to its reputation as the core government office of ancient Huizhou. Restored to its original site according to Ming Dynasty regulations, its central axis layout is orderly and solemn, with the ceremonial gate, main hall, and second hall unfolding in sequence, showcasing the grandeur of an ancient government office. The exquisite Hui-style wooden structure and intricate carvings add to its charm. Visitors can also watch live court performances, gaining a direct experience of the ancient government office system. The most worthwhile attraction in the scenic area is the Suojiang Tower (a national key cultural relic protection unit). Actually, you can see it very clearly from the outside :) There is a 3D electronic screen inside the tower, and climbing the tower is also a good place to enjoy the river view. However, the design of Suojiang Tower is not user-friendly for viewing the tower.
