Concubine Ln

Concubine Ln is a century-old alley in Ipoh Old Town, tucked between rows of old shophouses. Along with the adjacent Wife Lane and Third Concubine Lane, it is a popular stop when exploring the Old Town. The origin of the lane's name is a subject of much debate: rumor has it that this was once a place where wealthy merchants kept their concubines, but a more reliable account is that tin mining tycoon Yau Tet Shin gifted the entire row of shophouses to his second wife to collect rent. The Cantonese term for "concubine" became the name of the lane, and what remains is actually a piece of family history from the tin mining era. The lane is flanked by two-story shophouses from the British colonial era. Faded wooden window shutters and mottled exterior walls preserve the appearance of a Nanyang old street from a century ago. This old-street charm has also attracted film crews. The movie "Anna and the King" was filmed in the Ipoh area, and strolling through it feels like stepping onto a movie set from the past.Ipoh · 4.2 km from downtown

Mirror lake is surrounded by layered limestone cliffs, resembling a secret chamber carved out by nature right next to the bustling city. As the surrounding mountains block the breeze, the lake surface remains mirror-like and calm most of the time, clearly reflecting the lush vegetation and steep rock walls. The journey to this paradise is an adventure in itself. Visitors must pass through a long tunnel left over from the mining era. The moment you step out of the tunnel's shadow, the sudden, expansive view of the lake and mountains is often visually stunning. The lake water here is a deep, dark green, a color derived from the rich mineral deposits at the bottom, which adds a touch of mystery to the entire space. In addition to pausing to admire the view from the wooden viewing platform on the shore, gliding across the lake in a small boat is another way to experience this place. As you row slowly, the tiny ripples created by the oars break the reflection of the rock walls, allowing you to feel a sense of dynamic tranquility.Ipoh · 5.9 km from downtown

Han Chin Villa was built by Hakka miners in 1893 and is now a Chinese tin mine theme museum in Malaysia. The building retains the Nanyang colonial style mixed with Chinese carved porches. The three-story exhibition hall restores the life scenes of miners in the 19th century through 400+ cultural relics.   Han Chin Villa is about an 8-minute walk from Ipoh Railway Station. Take a taxi and locate "Han Chin Pet Soo". The official website needs to be booked in advance for the tour. The key experiences are: 1. Underground mine simulation scene and mining tool operation  2. Tin workshop deciphers the "white iron" forging technique  3. The historical exhibition area restored on the top floor . In the interactive area on the second floor, you can try on the miner's bamboo helmet and take photos  , and the souvenir shop's tin tea utensils are more cost-effective than those outside the scenic area  . Surrounding connection: Walk north to the Concubine Lane Mural Street, and south to the birthplace of Old Town White Coffee. The stairs in the museum are quite steep, so it is recommended to wear non-slip shoes; there are often queues in the afternoon during the rainy season, so it is recommended to visit in the morning.Ipoh · 4.2 km from downtown

Perak Cave is located in the suburbs 6 kilometers north of Ipoh City. Built in 1926 by a Chinese monk, the cave, approximately 122 meters long, is a limestone cave built into the mountainside. Legend has it that the monk discovered the cave while passing through the area and meditated inside for 20 years until his death. The main cave houses a seated statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, along with 40 other Buddha statues. The cliff walls are adorned with over a hundred murals, including depictions of the Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang's journey to the West. A dark, slippery staircase leads to the top of the mountain, from where one can enjoy panoramic views of the Ipoh suburbs.Ipoh · 3.9 km from downtown

Something different to see and nature is claiming back the mountains. Both of the ‘lakes’ are quarries filled with underground water. The boat rides are a little expensive but well organised and safe. Scenery is worth the visit.

Great lane to come and see the street art in Ipoh. It’s both new and old painting. Only for daytime - at night you can’t see!

Perak Cave Temple, nestled in Ipoh's limestone hills, seamlessly blends spiritual serenity with impressive architecture. The cavernous cave features Buddhist statues and murals, offering a tranquil space for meditation. A steep staircase reveals panoramic views, and a magnificent golden Buddha statue stands at the center. With modern amenities and friendly staff, the temple is a concise yet rich cultural and spiritual retreat in Malaysia.

When waiting for train from or to Butterworth or Kuala Lumpur, try to enjoy the 'dataran' first. Times can be killing here for sure. You won't regret it.

You must come to the representative work of karst landform, Ji Le Cave! It is seven or eight kilometers away from the city, not far away. You can directly call a taxi to the door by garb, and you can also see traditional Malaysian houses along the way. ⌛️Business hours are about 8:00-16:30. If you want to go, it is recommended to go early, because it is in the deep mountains, and it may be difficult to call a taxi when you leave too late. 💰Free🆓 🙏The feature is the distinct religious color. There are some Buddhist and Taoist figures in it, and there are also rock caves with karst landforms, but the scale is still small. On the other side of the cave is a lawn, where little monkeys live. They are not afraid of people and move freely here. If you have enough time, you can come and have a look! I don’t think it’s necessary to come here specifically to expect anything!

Went to visit Kellie’s Castle, also known as the famous haunted castle in Ipoh back in 3 Nov 2022. We went in the broad daylight so there was nothing scary or any haunted moments. Castle is beautifully maintained with the ruins for nice photo memory. If you love a more scary adventure, you can book a private midnight tour for the experts to bring you to tour the castle in the dark. Who knows there might be night surprises!!!
