Prambanan Temple

Prambanan is a very magnificent Hindu temple in Indonesia. It has been damaged by many volcanoes and earthquakes. There are more than 50 temple ruins. Prambanan was built in the 8th to 10th centuries AD, about the same era as Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and has many similarities in architectural form and sculptural themes. The temple has three-story courtyards. Most of the buildings on the outer two floors are in ruins. Only the inner layer preserves several temples. The three magnificent main temples are dedicated to Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu, and the other three small temples are respectively. Enshrined in their mounts divine bull, divine goose and condor. Like Borobudur, Prambanan Temple is also built of volcanic rock, and the walls are covered with exquisite reliefs, but its content is mostly based on the Indian epic "Ramayana". Compared with Angkor Wat, although the same story is told, the artistic style and characters are quite different.Prambanan · 5.1 km from Kalasan

The Water Palace is located in the southwest of the Sultan's Palace in Yogyakarta. It is a complex of canals, ponds and palaces. It used to be the palace's luxury entertainment park, swimming pools and waterways for the Sultan and his entourage to travel. This elaborate retreat was built between 1758 and 1765 by a Portuguese architect. Most of what you see today are the relics of the past, and the landscape bathing pool that is more representative of the water palace was rebuilt later.Kraton · 13.5 km from Kalasan

Plaosan Lor Temple, like the Prambanan temple complex, was built around the same time by the Rakai Pikatan dynasty. It blends Hindu and Buddhist religious symbolism and carvings. Two massive dwarapala temple guardian statues stand in front of each main temple. Note the main temple's unusual three-part design: a two-story, three-chamber structure with an artificial level above, and a stupa level rising to a larger central top. Each room houses an impressive stone Bodhisattva statue, placed on either side of an empty lotus pedestal, with beautifully carved dragon heads above many of the windows. North Plaosan Temple consists of two restored, identical main temples surrounded by nearly 126 small shrines and solid stupas, though most are now just piles of rubble. South Plaosan Temple features many stupas and the ruins of a temple, but restoration work does not appear to have begun there yet.Prambanan · 6 km from Kalasan

Borobudur Temple

Borobudur is located about 40 kilometers northwest of Yogyakarta. It is the largest Buddhist architectural complex in the world and is listed as a world cultural heritage. Borobudur means "a pagoda on a hill", but there is no written record of who built it and it is very mysterious. When you come to the Borobudur Stupa, you will definitely be shocked by it. This big Buddhist pagoda is built with local volcanic rock. The tower is 10 layers and consists of 6 huge square platforms, 3 circular platforms and the middle dome. The base is more than 100 meters long and the total height is more than 40 meters. It is quite majestic . There are more than 2,600 reliefs and more than 500 Buddha statues on the pagoda. Climbing up the steps can take a closer look. The stone walls of the corridors on each floor are full of lifelike reliefs, with delicate and exquisite carvings and various patterns. Some depict Buddhist stories, and some vividly reflect the daily life of the people and various livestock, flowers, birds, fish and insects. The Buddha statues, large and small, have different expressions and postures, which are enough to look at for a long time. Climbing to the top, you can see the pointed dome in the middle, which is surrounded by more than 70 Buddha statues sitting in the hollowed-out stupa. The scene is very awe-inspiring. You can see the Buddha statues inside through the hollowed out stupa, and there are also a few Buddha statues that are half exposed, taller than people, and particularly eye-catching. When the weather is fine, standing at the top of the pagoda can overlook Mount Merapi, and these sitting Buddha statues seem to be staring into the distance just like you, which is very artistic. Borobudur is also a good place to watch the sunrise. Many people make a special trip in the early morning when it is quiet, waiting for the sun to rise and the sun to shine on the pagodas and Buddha statues.Borobudur · 30.4 km from Kalasan

Visiting Prambanan Temple was one of the most memorable experiences of my journey in Indonesia. As I approached the temple complex, I was immediately amazed by the grandeur of its towering structures and the intricate carvings that adorned the ancient stones. The beauty of the place reflects not only the artistic skills of the people who built it but also their deep religious devotion and rich cultural heritage. What made the experience unique was the opportunity to witness a historical and sacred place that has stood for centuries. Walking around the temple complex allowed me to appreciate the stories, beliefs, and traditions passed down through generations. Each structure seemed to carry a story of its own, reminding me that temples are more than architectural masterpieces; they are also expressions of the spirituality, identity, and worldview of the people who built them.I was particularly fascinated by the way the temples stood tall against th sky, creating a beautiful contrast

The Water Palace isn't very large, but it's a well-known local attraction and worth seeing from a cultural perspective. Walking from one end to the other without a guided tour should take about twenty minutes. After buying your ticket and entering, you can look back; you can go up to either side of the palace gate. The signs in front and behind offer panoramic views. Inside, you'll find the bathing pools.

Before becoming a tourist spot, Breksi Cliff was a natural rock mining site. This mining activity is carried out by the local community. At the mining location there are places where mining rocks are cut to be used as building decoration materials.

I arranged for a Grab ride to get there. I visited in the afternoon, and there were only a handful of tourists. The grounds were much larger than I expected, and I couldn't see everything. I heard that it gets crowded with tourists at sunset and sunrise, so I'd like to go again if I have the chance.

Probably a hidden tourist attraction. The admission fee is cheaper than other popular temples. There are few people, so it is recommended for those who want to explore quietly and leisurely.

The Borobudur sunset ticket experience is fantastic! This exclusive ticket for foreigners allows you to ascend to the 9th floor of the main tower to watch the sunset, a privilege not included with regular daytime tickets. The golden sunlight bathing the ancient stupa in the evening is breathtaking. After sunset, you can enjoy the illuminated night view, followed by a buffet dinner at the restaurant with stunning views directly overlooking Borobudur. Passport verification is required for entry. The steps are quite steep, but free slippers are provided. Places are limited, so this package is the best choice for those wanting to see the Borobudur sunset and night view – a truly worthwhile experience.
