In the Arpaçay Valley of Kars Province, Türkiye, the Ani Ruins stand on an isolated plateau, overlooking the canyon that forms a natural border with Armenia, and their magnificent appearance is captivating. This ancient city combines residential and military architecture. As the capital of the medieval Armenian Kingdom in the 10th and 11th centuries, it flourished due to Silk Road trade and developed into the "City of 1001 Churches." Today, 21 magnificent ruins remain within the city, including towering churches, solemn mosques, and mysterious fire temples... It is a representative medieval city built over several centuries. Cultural Treasure: In 2016, Ani was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, attracting thousands of domestic and international tourists every year. It is not only a model of medieval architectural art. It was the gateway on the Silk Road from the Caucasus to Anatolia, and a historical stage where military and commercial powers converged. Ancient City Ruins: In the 10th–11th centuries, Armenians were the main inhabitants of Ani, building many churches and other structures within the city. These buildings also inspired the Gothic style throughout Europe. The Church of St. Gregory of Tigran Honents still preserves some frescoes, telling the forgotten story of this city. What is stunning about the Ani Ruins is the 5 km long city wall that still stands today. This wall was built during the Bagratid period in the 9th century, with some sections featuring a double-layer defensive structure, intricately carved with lions, dragons, and ancient emblems, symbolizing symbols of past civilizations. Seljuk Sultan Alp Arslan led his army to breach the city's defenses and immediately ordered its restoration and reconstruction. Seven City Gates: Seven historic gates lead to the Ani city walls, each carrying unique cultural and strategic significance. Lion Gate (Aslanlı Kapı): As the main gate leading to Kars and the heart of Anatolia, it is famous for the historical inscriptions carved on the gate, which record the restoration during the Seljuk period. Ciftebeden Gate (Ciftebeden Kapı) and Uğurun Gate (Uğurun Kapı): Located to the west of the Lion Gate, they once served as auxiliary defensive passages. Chessboard Gate (Satrancli Kapı, also known as Hidirellez Gate, Hidirellez Kapı): The towers on both sides are carved with dragon and bull patterns, which are typical symbols of traditional Turkish art. Migmig River Gate (Migmig Deresi Kapı), Bag Sekisi Gate (Bag Sekisi Kapı), and Divin Gate (Divin Kapı): Among them, the Divin Gate is named because it directly connected to the medieval city of Dvin (now in Armenia), and it still stands at the zero-kilometer mark of the Türkiye-Armenia border today, in a relatively well-preserved state.Kars Merkez · 37.9 km from downtown

I think the Kars Castle is better preserved than other local castles. There is a place that is still relatively intact. That place may be popular with Romans, especially the rich Romans, so there are many castles here.
