Kathmandu Durbar Square
Kathmandu Durbar Square was once the site where the city-state's kings were crowned, and today, this square is a magnificent World Heritage Site in Kathmandu. The square is formed by the open Basantapur Square to the south, the main temple area to the west, and the old palace area to the northeast. Newari-style buildings with red brick foundations and dark wood-carved eaves are distributed throughout, with dozens of temples and shrines of various sizes featuring intricate carvings, making it a place worth slowing down to admire. Many visitors climb the steps to look down at the hustle and bustle of the square.
