The Kumtura Thousand Buddha Caves are located on the foothills and cliffs east of the Weigan River. They are divided into two areas, north and south. Few of the caves and murals are well preserved, and most of them have been destroyed or damaged by nature. The caves were excavated around the fourth century, and the earliest murals date back to the Northern and Southern Dynasties. Among the caves, there are Uighur caves, which represent and reflect the history and culture of the time. Compared with the Kizil Thousand Buddha Caves, they are similar in style and smaller in scale.
