No. 1 of Best Things to Do in Kyrgyzstan

Issyk-Kul

Issyk-Kul is situated deep in the Tian Shan Mountains, with a lake surface altitude of approx. 1,600 m and an area of approx. 6,236 sq km. Among the world's alpine lakes, it is second only to Lake Titicaca in South America. The lake water is slightly saline and does not freeze even in severe winter. Its name in Kyrgyz literally means "hot lake." Tang Dynasty texts referred to it as "Rehai" (Hot Sea) or "Daqingchi" (Great Clear Pool). Xuanzang passed by the lake during his journey to the West to retrieve Buddhist scriptures and left records of this body of water in the "Great Tang Records on the Western Regions." Cholpon Ata on the north shore is a hub for resort facilities. In summer, you can swim or sail at the lakeside beaches. The open-air petroglyph museum near the town is known by locals as the "Stone Garden," where rock carvings dating back to the Bronze Age are scattered across hillsides of boulders, depicting scenes of hunting, herding, and sacrificial rituals. The south shore is more primitive and desolate. Herders in Bokonbayevo still preserve the tradition of golden eagle hunting, and you can watch demonstrations of hunting with eagles. Nearby, the Fairy Tale Canyon features winding, undulating reddish-brown rock formations, and further east are the red cliffs of the "Seven Bulls" in Jeti-Oguz. Karakol at the east end of the lake is a gateway for hiking, where you can go horseback riding or hiking into the Altyn-Arashan hot spring valley, and in winter, you can visit nearby ski bases. You can stay overnight at yurt camps by the lake, and at night, you can often look up and see the Milky Way.Kyrgyzstan · Bishkek

Because of its vast size, the scenery varies depending on the location and the weather. The best-looking beach I've encountered so far is somewhere east of Barekich, where many locals are swimming, boating, and diving (although signs say diving is prohibited). It's like the best "infinity pool" in a landlocked country.

Osh Bazaar in Bishkek is one of the most popular and unique bazaars in the city. It exudes an air of sentimentality and nostalgia, and has a wide range of local products on sale for really good prices. For locals and tourists, this historic bazaar is simply a nice location to visit and to walk around in.

A truly majestic spot. It's the most iconic and symbolic place in Bishkek! The sight of the large flag fluttering in the wind is incredibly photogenic. There's also a free amusement park, stylish restaurants, and cafes nearby, making it an absolute must-see for tourists!

The cable car opened on February 18th, but there wasn't even a place to sit and rest at the top of the mountain; we just enjoyed the scenery and took pictures.

The fluffy snow and pine trees look even more beautiful the more you look at them.

From a topographical perspective, Kyrgyzstan is a relatively fragmented country. The country is divided into pieces by several mountain ranges of the Pamir Plateau, while a large area of the Fergana and Chu River Valleys in the south has been cut off by neighboring Uzbekistan.
