The name of the old town Cité plangenêt comes from the Plantagenet dynasty of England. The founder of the dynasty, Henry II, was born in the Count's Palace of Le Mans, which is now the town hall. The 8-meter-high city wall with stone cladding and special stripes, the public baths in the ancient Roman period, and the St. Julian's Cathedral are still well preserved. Along the river bank, you can see the whole picture of the old town and the only well-preserved ancient Roman city wall in Europe. There are famous craftsmen from all over Europe in the old town, as well as small shops collecting various artworks. The old town is considered to be the best place to shoot medieval movie scenes. The dreamy night of lights every summer allows you to experience a wonderful journey through time.
