Lianzhou underground river

7.2

4.8/5

7.2k reviews

Lianzhou underground river is located 26 km northeast of the ancient city of Lianzhou, nestled in the towering mountains at the junction of Guangdong, Guangxi and Hunan provinces. It is a giant natural limestone cave typical of subtropical karst landforms. Renowned for its mysterious and magnificent stalactites and subterranean rivers, it is hailed as the premier underground river in Guangdong. The attraction features both land and water routes - the land route showcases the cave formations while the water route explores the underground river. With its grand scale, spectacular views and unique combination of features, the Lianzhou underground river is considered a marvel of Lingnan region. Celebrated writer Qin Mu described it as "a mysterious and magnificent underground river". Its distinctive characteristics include caves within caves, rivers within caves, bridges within caves and waterfalls within caves. The Lianzhou underground river lies hidden in a karst cave halfway up the high mountain, covering an area of 100,000 m² with 60,000 m² accessible for visitors. The upper two levels feature spectacular sights like the 30 m-high sky-piercing pillar and the immortal field square that can accommodate 10,000 people. The third level consists of a winding underground river where water quietly flows into the cave's depths. The cave presents an extraordinary landscape with endless mountain-water vistas, towering cliffs, and naturally formed majestic openings that create a profound sense of discovering a hidden world - arguably surpassing even the seven-star attraction. With year-round temperatures maintained at 18-22°C, humidity at 96-98%, oxygen levels as high as 21.4-21.6%, and carbon dioxide content merely 0.01-0.019%, the cave offers fresh air, warm winters and cool summers, making it an ideal sanctuary for tourism and summer retreats. The cave features countless stalactites of diverse shapes and dazzling colors, with the tour area divided into three levels. The upper and middle levels are land layers with tall, spacious halls and solid rock walls, presenting magnificent scenes like "waterfalls," "mountain forests," "secluded valleys," "pastoral fields," and "Yao villages," where flowers bloom in competition and birds soar amid drifting clouds. The lower level is an underground river meandering 1,500 m from north to south, passing through three beautiful gorges and beneath four mountain peaks. The river is 1.6-10 m wide and 1-7 m deep, with breathtaking scenery along both banks, including the cave treasures "Golden rooster heralds the dawn" and "Flying elephant crosses the river," as well as the two-in-one spectacle "Longevity star" in the underground river. There are also nearly 100 natural wonders formed by stone pillars, stone curtains, stalagmites, stone lotus roots, and stone flowers, such as "Flying waterfall and strange rocks" and "Flower and bird divine pavilion." Every natural wonder leaves visitors in awe, making them reluctant to leave. Lianzhou underground river offers free guide services, and viewing the stone formations with the guide's explanation makes it more fascinating. After walking through the land layer, visitors can board a cruise boat, with each boat accommodating approx. 18 people. The small boat travels along the underground river through winding and narrow passages, where stalactites overhead are within reach. Along the way, you'll pass through three gorges: banana gorge, lotus gorge, and Lianzhou underground river-dragon gate gorge. The stalactite formations on both banks, illuminated by lights, create a breathtaking sight. Visitors often get wet from water droplets falling from the dome, unlike overdeveloped caves that have dried up and lost their vitality. Product type: Land layer tour + cruise. The Lianzhou underground river attraction operates on a single-ticket system for the cave. The standard tour duration is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours (may extend during peak season and holidays). The itinerary includes walking through the land layer and taking a cruise along the underground river. The cruise lasts about 10-15 minutes, and the entire cave tour takes approx. 1.5 hours.

The area boasts both picturesque bridges over streams and a thrilling sky ladder, making it truly distinctive. The mountain stands approximately 1,417m above sea level and is known as the "Most Dangerous Peak in Lingnan." The ascent takes about 2.5–3 hours, while the descent takes around 1.5 hours. Qingtian Glass Bridge

3.5

4.8/5

327 reviews

The Qingtian Glass Bridge is located in the Huangchuan Three Gorges-Longtan Resort (a national AAAA-level tourist Attraction) in Lianzhou, Guangdong Province. It has the characteristics of a large span, a wide bridge deck, light weight and a low beam height. It is a fully transparent glass landscape bridge that has many comprehensive functions such as Attraction passage, sightseeing, bungee jumping, zipline, and catwalk. This glass bridge built on the Qin and Han Dynasty ancient waterway spans the steep cliffs of the Huangchuan Three Gorges and offers a panoramic view of the great waterfalls in northern Guangdong. With its unique structure and extraordinary appearance, it has become a landmark building for Lianzhou City to create a "historical and cultural journey, natural landscape journey, and international channel journey". The Sky-reaching Glass Bridge is built between cliffs and waterfalls, suspended above the cliffs and deep pools of the Huangchuan Three Gorges, and blends with the Souvenir environment, magnificent and harmonious. From a distance, it looks like a giant dragon with its head held high and soaring into the clouds, flying over the steep cliffs of the Grand Canyon, and looming in the mist and clouds of the Huangchuan Three Gorges. The color of the bridge body is the Chinese red that has been passed down for thousands of years. This is not only the favorite color of the Chinese nation, but also the cultural totem and spiritual conversion of the Chinese people. The Chinese red hue makes the entire bridge more stunning and eye-catching in the clouds and mist that are common in the Huangchuan Three Gorges. The Qingtian Glass Bridge is 526.14 meters long and is a large single-span suspension bridge in the valley. The on-site construction uses fully prefabricated imported bolt connections, which not only ensures the safety of the project and the stability of the structure, but also enhances the excitement of viewing. The entire glass bridge is made of 3 layers of 4.5 cm thick imported ultra-clear laminated glass. The light transmittance of this ultra-clear glass is 99.15%. Its crystal-like luster, high-definition brightness, and ultra-high light refractive index make the tourists' vision brighter, the view more transparent, and the viewing experience more exciting. Vertical arc-shaped stainless steel guardrails are used on both sides of the bridge to ensure the safety of tourists while taking 360° views on the glass bridge. The designer has endowed the Sky-High Glass Bridge with many elements about love. A romantic journey begins the moment you step onto the glass bridge. The finishing touch is that the bridge deck gradually transforms into four symmetrical "heart-to-heart" ultra-wide viewing platforms, which can accommodate 1,000 people at the same time, as if waiting for lovers' vows and children's dreams. Each "heart"-shaped platform is 13 meters wide and 14 meters long, implying "a lifetime". Walking on the glass skywalk, you can look down at the dozens of waterfalls falling into the river, spraying like mist, the deep and steep cliffs on both sides of the gorge, and the cliffs standing tall under the sun like colorful neon lights, magnificent. Being in the extraordinary poetry and painting corridor, but walking in the air with fear, this fantasy journey of "eyes in heaven, body in hell" is suitable for going hand in hand with lovers to test the courage of love. When going down the mountain, there are many shooting locations along the winding ancient plank road by the water. It is a must-visit place for couples and families to play and check in. The end point is Taohua Island, known as the "romantic terminal". This "red dragon" that stretches across the Huangchuan Three Gorges is filled with the ancient flavor of the Qin and Han dynasties, continues the legacy of the prosperous Tang and Song dynasties, follows the splendid veins of the Wei and Jin dynasties, and flows with the unique charm of the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. With its rich cultural connotations, it forms intricate Chinese knots on the bridge towers at both ends, which highly summarizes the endless history of the descendants of the dragon, and also represents "good luck" and "reunion and prosperity".

What travellers say about Liannan

水果师傅November 2, 2026

5.0

I drove here specifically to visit the thousand-year-old Yao village. The village is built on a mountain, with many steps, so climbing it was a bit tiring. The stilted houses are layered one after another, and the view of the surrounding mountains from the top is excellent, making for great photos.
