When visiting Zhaoxing Dong Village, don't miss the Tang'an Terraces atop the mountain. Compared to the bustling villages below, this place retains a rare, pristine atmosphere. Layer upon layer of stone-built terraces unfold along the valley, stilted houses are scattered among the fields, and a drum tower stands quietly in the village, creating a healing pastoral scene of Dong culture.
Two ways to experience it are recommended: if you have the energy, you can hike along the ancient path from Zhaoxing to Tang'an, walking along the ridges to experience the texture of the terraces up close; if you prefer a more relaxed trip, take a shuttle bus up the mountain. In the early morning, the mountains are often shrouded in mist, with clouds drifting among the terraces like a fairyland; in the evening, the setting sun casts its glow over the rice paddies, and smoke rises from the village chimneys, making for stunning photos at every turn.
The area is very sparsely commercialized, with few noisy shops, and you can still see locals working in the fields. The scenery changes with the seasons: during the irrigation season, the rice paddies are like mirrors, and in autumn, the landscape is a sea of golden hues.
Tips: The temperature on the mountain is low, so remember to bring a light jacket. The stone paths are slippery, so watch your step. If you want to get away from the crowds and quietly experience the rural life of southeastern Guizhou, the Tang'an Terraces are worth a special trip.
