The Kremlin is located in the heart of Moscow and serves as the presidential residence. The word Kremlin means “fortress inside a city” in Russian. It is the heart of the country's capital and was once the site of the Imperial Palace of Russia. Inside the thick palace walls lies the magnificent architectural complex that was once the palace of the Tsars, as well as the Cathedral of the Archangel where the remains of many past Tsars rest, where members of the royal family were married and baptized and which was the site of each Tsar's coronation ceremony. Dormition Cathedral is home to the ancient clock tower of Ivan the Terrible, the State Armory, as well as the Presidential Palace and the Grand Auditorium built in the Soviet era.Moscow · 541m from downtown

GUM

GUM is located on the east side of Red Square in Moscow, facing the Kremlin across the square. Its name is derived from the abbreviation of the Russian for "State Department Store," and it is also commonly referred to as "GUM." The current building was completed in the 1890s and was designed through a collaboration between architect Pomerantsev and engineer Shukhov. Its facade stretches over 200 meters along Red Square, featuring towers, spires, and stone carvings that evoke the vocabulary of medieval Russian architecture, yet it is supported by a steel frame structure that was quite advanced for its time. The continuous arched glass skylights were unique when the building was completed. The interior of the mall consists of three parallel shopping arcades spanning three levels, resembling a small city covered by a glass roof. The arched ceiling, composed of tens of thousands of glass panes, allows sunlight to flood the atrium, keeping the interior bright even when it is snowing outside. The fountain in the central arcade is the visual centerpiece of the entire mall and a common meeting point for Muscovites, with many tourists visiting specifically to take photos. The shops on both sides bring together hundreds of international and local brands, offering everything from fashion and jewelry to perfume and cosmetics. Even if you don't plan on shopping, it is worth coming in for a walk. The "Stolovaya No. 57" on the third level recreates the look of a Soviet state-run canteen, where you can carry a tray and choose traditional Russian home-style dishes. "Gastronome No. 1" replicates the grocery counters of the Soviet era, and its old-fashioned cream ice cream is quite famous. The "GUM ice cream" sold in small kiosks is another signature dessert that has been around for years. It is a great place to stop by and warm up after exploring Red Square, and when the lights come on at night, the glass arcades take on a different atmosphere.Moscow · 292m from downtown

Vorob'yevy gory

Vorob'yevy gory is located in the southwest of Moscow, on the right bank of the Moskva River. Known as Lenin Hills during the Soviet era, the name is derived from a village of the same name that once stood at the foot of the hill. It is one of the few high points in Moscow. The side facing the river features steep, forested cliffs, and the observation deck is located at the top of the cliff, dozens of meters above the river. Looking down from the railing, the Moskva River bends beneath your feet. On the opposite bank lies Luzhniki Stadium, which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1980 Olympics. Further in the distance, the golden domes of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the towers of the Novodevichy Convent, and the skyscrapers of the Moscow City business district are also clearly visible. On a clear day, you can even see the church spires of The Moscow Kremlin, making it a classic spot for overlooking the Moscow cityscape. Looking back at the summit, the main building of Moscow State University stands prominently and can be seen from far away in the city. The hillside still retains a ski jump built during the Soviet era. After the winter snow falls, it becomes one of the few places in the city for skiing. When heading to the observation deck, take note of the Vorob'yevy Gory subway station located on the lower level of the bridge crossing the river. This glass-walled "station on the bridge" is an attraction in itself. You can also take a cable car across the Moskva River and look back at these heights from Luzhniki on the opposite bank. If you have time, come back in the evening. Moscow at twilight offers a completely different experience compared to the daytime.Moscow · 7 km from downtown

The National Model Theater of Russia, also known as the Bolshoi Theater, was built in 1776 and is a theater with a long history in Russia. The theater is a milky white classicism building, with 8 ancient Greek Ionian columns erected in front of the door, each 15 meters, above the porch is decorated with four horses and the carriage of the sun god Apollo, which is one of the symbols of Moscow. . The performance hall is splendid, with gold as the main color. There are 6-storey boxes, 21 meters high, 25 meters long and 26.3 meters wide. The sound effects in the theater are well-equipped. The Bolshoi Theatre has a world-class opera company, ballet company, symphony orchestra and chorus. It is a representative Russian theatre. Tchaikovsky and Anton Rubinstein have all served as conductors in the theatre. In the history of more than 200 years, the Grand Theater has not only witnessed every step of the development of Russian ballet art, but also cultivated a large number of famous dance and opera artists. There have been many ballet superstars here, such as Safransky, Nezhdanova, Ogerov, Belinshinskaya and, of course, Galina Ulanova, the "beautiful swan" of the 20th century ballet, very familiar to Chinese audiences. As the world's high art palace of ballet, the Grand Theatre has preserved and developed the essence of classical ballet unparalleled, and has become the "business card" of Moscow and even the whole of Russia.Moscow · 486m from downtown

The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra

274 reviews
The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra is located in the town of Sergiyev Posad, approx. 70 km northeast of Moscow. This town is one of the ancient cities on Russia's "Golden Ring," famous for being the birthplace of traditional matryoshka dolls, and the entire town originally developed alongside the monastery. The monastery was founded in the 14th century by the Orthodox saint Sergius of Radonezh and has been continuously expanded over the centuries. It remains an active monastery for monks and houses the Moscow Theological Academy and seminary, making it one of the most well-known pilgrimage sites for the Russian Orthodox Church. The monastery grounds are packed with sights. The white-stone Trinity Cathedral was built around 1422, making it older than the other major buildings in the complex. Its golden iconostasis is said to be the work of the icon painter Andrei Rublev and his workshop; his masterpiece, "The Trinity," was originally created for this cathedral and is now housed in The State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. The relics of the founder, St. Sergius, are kept inside the cathedral, where believers often line up to pay their respects. Surrounding it are the Assumption Cathedral, the Church of the Holy Spirit, the Smolensk Church with its blue tent-shaped roof, the palace where tsars once stayed during their visits, the Refectory where monks used to dine and receive guests, and a multi-story bell tower standing approx. 88 m tall, all connected in a scattered layout. Surrounded by a ring of walls and towers, the entire complex looks like a fortress from a distance. When visiting, please note that if a religious service is in progress, you should observe quietly. You will often see monks in black robes and seminary students on the grounds, and if you visit during service times, you may hear bells and choral singing.Sergiev Posad · 69.4 km from Moscow

Kolomenskoye

Kolomenskoye is situated on a high hill overlooking the Moskva River. Covering nearly 400 hectares, it is now a historical park that combines ancient architecture, historic orchards, and riverside meadows. As early as the 14th century, this was the estate of the Grand Prince of Moscow, and for centuries thereafter, it served as a suburban residence for Russian monarchs. The estate's landmark building is the Church of the Ascension, built in 1532 to celebrate the birth of Ivan the Terrible. Designed by an Italian architect, its white stone tower with a tent-like spire is an early masterpiece of Russian tent-roofed stone churches. The steep bank in front of the church is also a great spot for overlooking the Moskva River. In the second half of the 17th century, Tsar Alexis built a magnificent wooden palace here, featuring hundreds of rooms and thousands of windows, which amazed foreign envoys and was called the "eighth wonder of the world" by contemporaries. The original palace was dismantled in the 18th century, but it has since been reconstructed on the site according to its original appearance. The park also houses the 16th-century Church of St. John the Baptist, the St. George Bell Tower, as well as the 17th-century Our Lady of Kazan Church, the main gatehouse, and water towers. It also brings together wooden houses and towers relocated from northern Russia, effectively serving as an open-air exhibition of wooden architecture. Peter the Great had a deep connection to this place during his childhood; as a youth, he drilled his "toy army" here, which later became the prototype for the Imperial Guard. The "Peter the Great House" in the park was his residence in 1702 while he was overseeing the construction of fortresses and warships at the northern river mouth, and it was later relocated to the estate. The apple orchards, which have been preserved since the Tsarist era, are planted with many ancient varieties of apple trees. They are in full bloom in late spring and heavy with fruit by late summer. Whether you are enjoying the flowers in spring, seeking shade in summer, watching the leaves turn in the fall, or admiring the snow-covered spires in winter, there is something to see in every season, making it a long-standing destination for Moscow residents to take walks and go on outings.Moscow · 10 km from downtown

It's definitely worth seeing. You can save money by buying tickets for the back. The theater isn't very big, but you can see from all angles. Front row tickets are too expensive. It's quite representative.

Traveling to Russia, this stop came to Moscow, came to this place, this place is called Sparrow Hills, Sparrow Hills without sparrows, just a name. This place was formerly called Lenin Hill, located in the southwest of Moscow, Russia, on the south bank of the Moscow River. It is also the highest point in Moscow, but it is only 220 meters, haha. There is a famous observation deck here, located 85 meters above the river level, where you can see part of the city view of Moscow, including the famous Luzhniki Stadium and Ukraine Hotel. Not far from the observation deck is the Luzhniki Railway Bridge, and this observation deck is also facing the gate of Moscow University. There is a ski jump on Sparrow Hills, built in 1953, and various mountain bike and racing competitions are often held on the mountain. In an open space on Sparrow Hill, the angle is very good. On one side, you can see the city, and on the other side is the designated place for taking graduation photos of Moscow University. Once graduation arrives, you may see groups of graduates gathering here to take graduation photos. The background of the photo is the teaching building of Moscow University, a very beautiful background. If the weather is good, the photos will be taken with a large piece of blue sky and white clouds, but the weather in Moscow is often dim, and there are only more than 70 days of sunshine a year. When we arrived, it was winter, that is, it was snowing. The section of road facing Moscow University was already buried in snow, and we couldn't see the road. Maybe there was grass there. Everyone stood on it. The snow was very thick, so we had to be careful. It would go down when we stepped on it. There were some benches next to it, and it felt like a small park.

A must-visit gallery in Moscow! A day spent being awestruck by Russian aesthetics – totally worth it, well worth the ticket price!! Entrance time: I recommend coming around noon, as the queues will be much shorter! Remember to go to the Old Gallery!! The most classic exhibits are all in the Old Gallery!! I recommend spending 3-4 hours there. Renting an audio guide for 500 rubles (I think) is a must – don't skimp on this!

A favorite rural resort, this place even boasts a wooden palace built by Tsar Alexander Pavlovich, unfortunately destroyed in the 18th century; only a model of the palace can be viewed in a museum. Now, this outdoor architectural museum preserves several 16th and 17th-century churches, as well as wooden buildings of various styles moved from different regions. The most famous is a cruciform cabin once inhabited by Peter the Great, a temporary residence during his visits to northern Russian cities. The Church of the Assumption in Cromenskoye is a historically significant traditional church, built to celebrate the birth of Ivan IV. It holds a pivotal position in the history of Russian architecture because it was the first time a wooden structure was built in brick, laying the foundation for the construction of St. Basil's Cathedral 25 years later.
