Lake Naivasha is located on the floor of the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, in the highlands northwest of Nairobi, at an altitude of approx. 1,900m. The lake's name comes from the Maasai language, meaning rough water, named for the way the water rises during storms. While most lakes in the Rift Valley are alkaline, this is a rare freshwater lake due to the rivers that flow into it year-round. The lakeshore is surrounded by dense papyrus and acacia forests, with lush vegetation, making it a home for birds and hippos. Boat tours are a classic way to experience the lake. On the water, you can often see hippos poking their ears and nostrils above the surface, and in the evening, they come ashore in groups to graze. The lake is home to hundreds of bird species. Pelicans, pied kingfishers, and various other kingfishers are everywhere. A signature sight here is the boatman whistling and tossing fish to attract fish eagles, which then swoop down to snatch them from the water's surface. Crescent Island, a crescent-shaped island in the lake, has no predators, allowing you to get off the boat and walk among giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and waterbucks—this is one of the few places in Kenya where you can go on a walking safari. The area around the lake is also dotted with rose greenhouses, making it a major production area for fresh-cut flowers in Kenya and a popular vacation spot for locals.

Hells Gate National Park is located in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya, south of Lake Naivasha, approx. two hours' drive from Nairobi, and was established in 1984. Its name comes from European explorers who arrived in 1883: facing the narrow and deep gorge passage between cliffs, they felt it was like a gate to hell. The creative team of the animated film "The Lion King" made a special trip here for inspiration, and the iconic rocky grassland landscape in the film was modeled after this place; "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life" was also filmed on location here. The park was officially established in 1984, covering an area of 68.25 km. Stepping into the park, ochre-red sandstone canyons stand toweringFischer's TowerThe volcanic plug and central tower basalt columns cast geometric shadows in the morning light. The Ol Njorowa gorge trail winds through geothermal steam vents, where sulfur springs share warm streams with African buffalo, and a 5 km-long rift fault zone exposes volcanic rock layers. The gas pipelines of the geothermal power plant form a surreal industrial-natural tableau with zebra herds, while the abandoned Olkaria geothermal station now serves as a vulture habitat. This park is one of the few reserves in East Africa that allows hiking and cycling exploration. Hiking enthusiasts can follow designated routes to deeply experience nature's marvels. Professional photography teams are stationed in the canyon fissure area, where midday sunlight penetrates the rock walls to create the "hell's light" spectacle. The eco camping area is equipped with geothermal shower facilities, and at night, visitors can observe the unique "stellar color palette" phenomenon specific to the rift zone.

Watamu Boat Rides Naivasha is a water-based activity to get close to Lake Naivasha: take a small boat into the lake area to experience the lake views and wildlife of theGreat Rift Valleyfrom the water. Lake Naivasha is located at the bottom of the rift valley and is a rare freshwater lake in the rift zone, with shores surrounded by vast papyrus and acacia forests; the name "Naivasha" originates from the Maasai language, meaning "rough water" or "turbulent water," named for the lake's tendency to swell during storms. During the boat ride, hippos often move slowly across the water, revealing only their small ears and nostrils. They may look lazy, but they should not be underestimated; the boatman will guide visitors to observe them while maintaining a safe distance. The moment an African fish eagle catches its prey is a highlight of the trip: the guide tosses a small fish, and the eagle swoops down from the air to snatch it from the water in one fluid motion. The lake area is home to hundreds of bird species; water birds like pelicans, kingfishers, and cormorants often appear by the boat, so birdwatching and photography enthusiasts should bring telephoto equipment. The route often heads toward Crescent Island in the lake—one of the filming locations for the movie "Out of Africa"—where you can see giraffes, zebras, waterbucks, and wildebeests grazing leisurely on the grassy slopes from across the water. This area is also an important flower-producing region in Kenya, and the scattered greenhouse flower fields along the lakeshore add a unique pastoral landscape to the boat trip.

The Hell's Gate in Naivasha is actually a very large wildlife park. The two peaks here stand opposite each other, forming a natural gate, which is known as the Hell's Gate. But in fact, there are rich grasslands here, and many herbivorous wild animals live here. It is full of vitality and is definitely one of the famous attractions in Kenya. Don't miss it.

Lake Naivasha has a nice view. You can watch hippos and ospreys fishing while taking a boat on the lake. However, taking a boat is still dangerous. Once the hippos fight or get angry, they may capsize the boat! Therefore, local boat trips are not long and are done while paddling to avoid hippos.
