Located in Central Java, Indonesia, Karaton Surakarta Hadiningrat is the palace of the Sultan of Yogyakarta, blending traditional Javanese architecture and cultural features. The palace was built between 1755–1756 and was sited in a banyan forest between two rivers, offering flood protection. The layout of the palace follows Javanese philosophy, symbolizing the origin and purpose of humanity. The road from the Krapyak Hunting Palace to the palace symbolizes the journey of human life from birth to adulthood. The main street of the old city forms a straight line from Mount Merapi to the palace, embodying the concept of the origin and purpose of humanity. In 1812, British troops captured Yogyakarta, and the palace was looted and burned. Most of the existing structures were built by the Sultan who reigned from 1921–1939. The palace hosts cultural performances such as Gamelan and Wayang shadow puppetry, showcasing the rich Javanese culture.Pasar Kliwon · 773m from downtown

Java

4.5
Java is a miracle created by the collision of natural power and human civilization on the edge of the equator. It interprets the pulse of the earth with erupting volcanoes, engraves the glory of faith with long-standing cultural relics, and conveys ancient wisdom with elegant art. There is both hustle and bustle and quiet ancient charm here; the charm of Java lies in the long tradition hidden in the modern city, and the endless fusion of multiple beliefs. Setting foot on this land will start a shocking journey through geological time and space, the long river of civilization and the density of life, and feel the hot, deep and vital pulse on the backbone of the South China Sea. From the sunrise on the seaside to the night view of Jakarta, from volcanoes to industrial areas, Java has always been moving forward in the tension between tradition and modernity, nature and humanity. It is a thick book, every page is full of contradictions and harmony, waiting for the world to read carefully.Wonosari · 14 km from Pasar Kliwon

Prambanan is a very magnificent Hindu temple in Indonesia. It has been damaged by many volcanoes and earthquakes. There are more than 50 temple ruins. Prambanan was built in the 8th to 10th centuries AD, about the same era as Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and has many similarities in architectural form and sculptural themes. The temple has three-story courtyards. Most of the buildings on the outer two floors are in ruins. Only the inner layer preserves several temples. The three magnificent main temples are dedicated to Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu, and the other three small temples are respectively. Enshrined in their mounts divine bull, divine goose and condor. Like Borobudur, Prambanan Temple is also built of volcanic rock, and the walls are covered with exquisite reliefs, but its content is mostly based on the Indian epic "Ramayana". Compared with Angkor Wat, although the same story is told, the artistic style and characters are quite different.Prambanan · 42.3 km from Pasar Kliwon

Visiting Prambanan Temple was one of the most memorable experiences of my journey in Indonesia. As I approached the temple complex, I was immediately amazed by the grandeur of its towering structures and the intricate carvings that adorned the ancient stones. The beauty of the place reflects not only the artistic skills of the people who built it but also their deep religious devotion and rich cultural heritage. What made the experience unique was the opportunity to witness a historical and sacred place that has stood for centuries. Walking around the temple complex allowed me to appreciate the stories, beliefs, and traditions passed down through generations. Each structure seemed to carry a story of its own, reminding me that temples are more than architectural masterpieces; they are also expressions of the spirituality, identity, and worldview of the people who built them.I was particularly fascinated by the way the temples stood tall against th sky, creating a beautiful contrast
