Tonle Sap River

181 reviews
Located in the heart of Cambodia, the Tonle Sap River meets the Mekong River and is the passage between the Tonle Sap Lake and the Mekong River. At the same time, it is also the fourth largest source of freshwater fish in the world. There are more than 150 kinds of fish in the river, and the freshwater resources are very rich. The main reason for the abundance of freshwater resources is due to the unique phenomenon that the Tonle Sap River can "reverse the flow". In the rainy season from June to September every year, due to the melting of snow in the Himalayas, the water level of the Mekong River suddenly increases, causing water to flow into the Tonle Sap River from the Mekong River, reversing the flow of the Tonle Sap River; from October to May the following year , the river flows back to the Mekong River. Around the Tonle Sap River, there are famous scenic spots such as the Royal Palace of Phnom Penh and the National Museum. The scenery is beautiful, and it is very pleasant to walk or rest by the river. There are also various cafes, restaurants and bars on the banks of the river and north of the Royal Palace, where you can immerse yourself in a romantic colonial-style restaurant and enjoy a delicious Western-style meal. An exotic place to go.Phnom Penh · 12.1 km from Ponhea Leu

This night market is located by the Tonle Sap River. It is mainly engaged in daily necessities and tourist souvenirs. There are many local people. It is a good place to spend time at night. The night market was rebuilt from a street garden. The original grass was changed to a cement tile floor, with an area of about 4,000 to 5,000 square meters, surrounded by iron pipe railings. There are two openings along the street, one goes in and the other goes out, and the entry and exit are fairly orderly. There are multiple rows of colored commercial sheds of uniform specifications, and there are a wide variety of commodities. There are clothing, shoes and hats, flowers, food, hand accessories, cosmetics, daily necessities, as well as a large number of stone carvings, bamboo and wood products, and Buddha statues with Khmer characteristics. Probably more popular with locals than foreigners. Foreign tourists come here to shop and remember to bargain hard, because the price is always raised.Phnom Penh · 22 km from Ponhea Leu

Unalong Temple is a very old temple in Phnom Penh, with a large-scale pagoda in Phnom Penh. "Unalong" means "sacred eyebrows", and it is said that there is an eminent monk's eyebrows hidden in the pagoda. Now it is the headquarters of a Cambodian Buddhist organization, and you can see the life scenes of monks reading and discussing. The pagoda enshrines the relics of the Buddha who were brought back from Ceylon in 1890. Therefore, many dignitaries like to build ashes pagodas in the temple, so that the ashes of the ancestors can be stored beside the Buddha, gradually forming a pagoda group.Phnom Penh · 22.7 km from Ponhea Leu

Standing on the tower hill, you can overlook the whole city of Phnom Penh. Legend of Tashan: According to legend, in the 14th century, a woman named "Ben" picked up a Buddha statue that had drifted down the Mekong River due to flooding, built it on a hill, built a temple to worship it, and gradually developed into a prosperous town. In the 15th century, the capital of the country was moved from Angkor to this place, and it was officially named "Bai Nang Ben", which means "the mountain of the lady", and the local overseas Chinese called it "Phnom Penh".Phnom Penh · 21.5 km from Ponhea Leu

Koh Rong Island is located in the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest of Sihanoukville. It takes about 2 hours to arrive by boat from Sihanoukville. Choose to live on the island for a week, lie in a hammock by the sea, chat with the locals with gestures without a word, and try a life of isolation. There are also many European and American reality shows that have been filmed here, making it an ideal vacation choice. Koh Rong Island is rich in landforms, with mountains, hills and forests, which also contain seasonal waterfalls and streams. Since it has not yet been fully developed, it has become a paradise for marine life. It is a good choice for diving and snorkeling. At night, you can also see glittering plankton. In addition, there are more than 20 beaches along the coast of Koh Rong Island. SokSanBeach is a beach on the island. The coastline is long, the sand is fine, and the sea water is clear.Cambodia · Sihanoukville

Koh Rong Sanloem is an undeveloped island where everything is primitive and the environment is tranquil, located south of Koh Rong in Sihanoukville. The island has mountains to the north and south, with two beaches on the east and west sides, and a naturally formed heart-shaped bay in the east. The island's visitors are mainly European and American backpackers, with fewer Chinese tourists, allowing you to experience a different kind of island charm. Koh Rong Sanloem has fewer visitors than Koh Rong, without the noise and bustle, and the scenery is more primitive and pristine. It is like an otherworldly, uninhabited island and a great place for a vacation. The water here is clear and calm, and the sand is fine. Walking barefoot on the beach, feeling the sea breeze, and listening to the sound of the waves gives you a feeling of being isolated from the world. At night, the beach has plankton washed up by the waves, emitting a pale blue fluorescent light like starlight scattered on the beach, which is beautiful and charming. In addition, there are many diving spots here, known by many diving enthusiasts as a hidden gem, making it a great place to relax.Cambodia · Sihanoukville

I’ve been to Mekong River through Vietnam once. But this time, Mekong River is connected to Tonle Sap which it makes a wonderful experience. I’ve always wanted to go to Tonle Sap because I learnt about their history way back then in secondary school. The tour boat costs 100USdollar for the whole boat! There are only 6 of us there. If you want to try experiencing Tonle Sap, you can try Sok Chamroeun Tour Boat. Highly recommended!

The Independence Monument (Vimean Ekareach) is an iconic 20-meter tall reddish-brown sandstone tower located in the heart of Phnom Penh. Built in 1958, it commemorates Cambodia's independence from French colonial rule in 1953 and honors the country's fallen heroes. The tower is shaped like a blooming lotus bud, a symbol of purity and awakening in Khmer culture.Coolest roundabout I’ve seen.

Pay respects to the most loved King Sihanouk of Cambodia. Tourists and locals frequent this statue to rever him. The surrounding park hosts a lot of sporting activities and is popular for runners and those meeting steps. South East Asia games banners are prominently displayed for selfies and groupies.

Located not far north of the Royal Palace in downtown Phnom Penh, Wat Ouarum is the largest Buddhist temple in the city and the center of Buddhism in Cambodia. Wat Ouarum was built in 1441 and rebuilt in 1979. It has accepted countless poor young people from all over Cambodia to study and research Khmer culture, so as to better preserve Khmer culture.

Wat Phnom, also known as Wat Phnom, is a relatively small mountain. It is the highest point of Phnom Penh and the birthplace of Phnom Penh. According to legend, a woman named "Ben" drifted here along the Mekong River due to a flood. She picked up a Buddha statue and worshipped it on the hill. Later, a temple was built here. The temple was crowded with believers and pilgrims, and gradually developed into a prosperous town. It was named "Bai Nang Ben", which means "Mountain of Lady Ben". Koh Roh Sanloem’s Sacaren Bay is truely amazing, perfect white soft sand and idyllic tranquil beaches and turquoise sea! There are no motos. the scenery and sunsets are breathtaking. There are some hidden stone carvings, tucked away in the jungle and it’s worth a visit! There is also a small waterfall. We were lucky to catch a Fire performance on one of the evenings there, at one of the restaurants by the beach too! M’Pai bay is busier and has a similar vibe to the main area in Koh Rong island.

Independence Square is also a very interesting place. This country has also experienced the baptism of war. There have been many wars over border issues. Independence Square is a place to commemorate national independence and it is also a very solemn area during the entire visit.
