Marble Cathedral

Marble Cathedral is a natural cave formed by thousands of years of lake water erosion onlakeside marble rock layers. The entire area contains multiplemarble rock formations, known respectively as the Marble Cathedral,Marble Chapel, andMarble Caves, among which the Marble Cathedral is named for its silhouette, which resembles a church dome and columns. The rock walls are primarily composed of calcium carbonatemarble. Pure sections appear white, while areas containing impurities display brown and yellow veins. The charm of the colors here comes largely from the interaction between the lake water and the rock walls: glacial particles give the water a turquoise blue-green hue, and light reflected off the water's surface enters the caves, casting a blue glow on the gray-white rock walls. As the seasons change, summer glacial meltwater causes the lake level to rise, submerging some cave entrances. In winter, the water level recedes, exposing more of the rock walls. To visit, you must take a boat from the quiet port in the lakeside town. Small boats slowly enter the main cave, allowing you to admire the intricate textures and the rock walls polished smooth by the water up close.
