Valley of the Moon

Valley of the Moon is located in the heart of the Atacama Desert in Chile, situated in the Salt Mountain Range west of the town of San Pedro de Atacama, and is part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve. Years of erosion by wind and water on salt layers and sediment deposits have sculpted rugged salt towers, rolling sand dunes, and dried lake beds covered in white salt crusts. The surface is almost devoid of vegetation, and it gets its name from its resemblance to the lunar landscape; the Atacama Desert, where it is located, is known for its aridity, with some areas having seen no rainfall for hundreds of years. Sunset is the signature experience here. In the afternoon, as the light slants into the valley, you can follow the trail to connect the salt caves, the Three Marys rock formations, and the amphitheater-like mountain hollow, then climb to the top of the Great Dune to wait for the sunset, watching the layered mountains turn from gold to pink, and then gradually sink into deep purple.San Pedro De Atacama · 9.2 km from downtown

El Tátío Geysers, located in the heart of the Atacama Desert in northern Chile at an altitude of approximately 4,320 meters, are one of the largest geyser formations in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the world's highest-altitude geothermal wonders. More than 80 active geysers erupt columns of steam up to 10 meters high in the low-temperature environment, creating a magical scene of "the earth boiling" with the morning light. The formation of El Tátío Geysers is closely related to volcanic activity in the Andes Mountains. Groundwater is heated by geothermal activity and erupts periodically, with geyser temperatures reaching up to 85°C. Arriving before dawn, the stark contrast between the low temperature (often below 0°C) and the high-temperature steam creates a misty, surging effect, as if the earth is "breathing," with an eruption frequency of approximately once per hour. The area also features simple hot spring pools (Pozón Rústico) where visitors can experience a natural bathing experience where fire and ice meet, with water temperatures varying from warm to scalding depending on the geyser.San Pedro De Atacama · 355m from downtown

Valle del Arcoiris is a unique geological wonder near San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, known for its brilliant colors and ancient rock paintings. The valley is located in the Atacama Desert and is named for its mineral-rich rock formations that appear red, green, yellow, white and other colors when exposed to sunlight, making it look as colorful as a rainbow. The formation of Valle del Arcoiris is the result of millions of years of geological changes. Its rock formations are shaped by volcanic sediments and mineral oxidation, presenting a strange landscape similar to Mars or the moon. Driving in a dry riverbed is as much fun as seeing a rainbow Once you are there, the scenery is spectacular. We have seen red rocks before, but definitely green and blue. Don't forget to stop and explore the petroglyphs along the way. We had a 4WD so it was no problem. If it wasn't for the car, we wouldn't have been so confident.

The Andean Plateau Lake in Atacama is a large alpine freshwater lake. The lake water here is mainly formed by the melting snow from the surrounding mountains. The lake surface is very calm, and it feels like a huge mirror, reflecting the surrounding snow-capped mountains and blue sky and white clouds. It is very beautiful.
