Santa Lucía Hill is a conical hill in the center of Santiago, the capital of Chile. It is the remnant of a volcano from millions of years ago and was known in the original local language as "Huelén," meaning "pain and sorrow." This hill is considered the birthplace of Santiago—it was here that Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia announced the founding of the city in 1541. In the 1870s, then-mayor of Santiago, Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna, led the transformation of this rocky hill into an urban garden, introducing fountains, sculptures, staircases, and drought-resistant vegetation. At the entrance at the foot of the hill stands an ornately decorated porch, with large murals on both sides. Winding up the curved stone steps, you will pass a small chapel built in the 1870s and various cacti. The hill is also dotted with sights such as the Neptune Fountain and Hidalgo Castle. The summit features an observation deck, offering a view of the Santiago city area and the distant Andes.Santiago · 2.6 km from downtown

La Moneda Palace

La Moneda Palace is the seat of the Chilean presidency and is located in the heart of Santiago. This neoclassical building was designed by Italian architect Joaquín Toesca and was originally the Royal Mint during the Spanish colonial period, with "Moneda" meaning "currency" in Spanish. The minting function continued for over a century, after which the building gradually transitioned into the seat of government and the presidential office. The building features a white stone facade, and its expansive, horizontal rectangular silhouette conveys a sense of solemnity and stability. The interior of the palace contains about 40 rooms distributed around several inner courtyards. Notable rooms include the Independence Hall with its iconic balcony, the Presidential Gallery displaying busts and portraits of past presidents, and the Blue Room used for receiving foreign heads of state. The square on the north side of the palace is the place to watch the changing of the guard ceremony. This traditional ceremony takes place every other day. The Chilean national police force enters the square in dress uniforms and on horseback, while a military band plays military music and folk songs. The ceremony lasts about half an hour and attracts many tourists and local residents who stop to watch. During the 1973 military coup, the palace was severely damaged by bombing. It was later reopened after extensive restoration, and some bullet marks are still clearly visible today, serving as a silent witness to this period of history.Santiago · 1.6 km from downtown

Deep in the nave, a marble baldachin stands above the main altar, housing a crucifix. The altarpiece on the main wall of the apse centers on a wooden statue of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, surrounded by angels and bronze-colored rays, with statues of Saint James the Apostle and Saint Rose of Lima on either side. The row of small altars in the side aisles is also worth a closer look, featuring the altar of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patron saint of Chile, as well as altars dedicated to Chilean native saints Alberto Hurtado and Teresa of the Andes. Sunlight streaming through the stained glass windows is a scene that leaves a lasting impression on many visitors.Santiago · 2 km from downtown

Standing among the colonial buildings of the Plaza de Armas, dyed honey by the setting sun, I vaguely heard the echoes of history. The chiming of the church's bronze bells startled a flock of pigeons as I stroked the polished stone carvings framing the central fountain—said to have been a resting place for countless travelers over three centuries. An elderly Indian in a striped poncho sat on a bench weaving colorful ropes. At his feet, a small mound of colored salt formed in an aluminum box, while a young man wearing headphones skated by him. The changing of the guards at the presidential palace, their heels tapping out a rhythmic beat, couldn't drown out the melody of "The Dove" played by an accordionist in the corner. I pulled a coin with Bolivar's face from my pocket and suddenly felt that this square resembled it: engraved with the solemnity of the colonial era on one side, and the heat of everyday life on the other.

The best view of the Andes Mountains. I climbed up instead of taking the cable car. The distance is not far, but the ground seems to be under repair. I fell and it was not worth it. In addition to enjoying the scenery on the top of the mountain, remember to try the local classic cold drink mote. It looks like a cold drink with pudding and beans, and it tastes good. It is said that the local Chileans will also have a cup at the top of the mountain. I took the cable car down the mountain. It was 3400, about 4 US dollars, which is not expensive. It is still a must-see attraction.

Interesting cathedral! Have visited many cathedrals over the years, the Metropolitan Cathedral in Plaza de Santiago is not particularly outstanding but the interior architecture and frescoes are worth seeing and it is a fairly busy place. The small chapel to the left as you walk into the main entrance is worth a look.

One of the characteristics of Valparaiso is its colorful graffiti on the walls, which is full of artistic feeling. It is also for this reason that it attracts many tourists to take pictures and check in. It is undeniable that these graffiti have also become a beautiful landscape.
