Melbourne has the Great Ocean Road and Wollongong has the Blue Ocean Road. The Blue Ocean Road is located between Sydney and Wollongong. This road is one of the routes from Sydney to the southern bay. The road is built along the coast, and the scenery along the way is not lost to the Great Ocean Road. 1. Sydney's Royal National Park Blue Ocean Road, passing through the Royal National Park along the way, passing farmland and seascapes, and passing through charming fishing port towns, the scenery is changing and dizzying. Departing from Sydney to Wollongong, the first pass is the Royal National Park, where the Blue Ocean Road begins. 2. Sea Cliff Bridge The spectacular SeaCliff Bridge (SeaCliff Bridge) is a very beautiful and unique section of the Blue Ocean Road. It is an overhead bridge built along a steep cliff. The train passes behind the cliff, and the bridge itself cannot be seen, but under the sea cliff bridge is a beautiful beach, with people fishing, surfing, and barbecues. You can park your car on the side of the road, get out of the car, relax, stretch your legs, take pictures, and if you're lucky, you can even see migrating whales. 3. After Bald Hill leaves the National Park, it takes about 12 minutes to drive to Bald Hill in the north of Wollongong, which is a good place to overlook the scenery of Wollongong Harbour. Standing on the top of the mountain overlooks the coastal road, the Sea Cliff Bridge, Wollongong and the magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean. It is also a famous gliding spot. The vast sea, quiet bays, green mountains, golden beaches and winding coastal roads form a beautiful landscape. 4. Shellharbour continues to drive, you can come to Shellharbour, the geographical end of the blue ocean road, which is also a beautiful seaside town on the blue ocean road. The rocks and open-air swimming pools by the sea are very beautiful, and there are rows on the seaside grass. Barbecue shack, people come here for vacation, so happy. 5. Don't stop at Jervis Bay because of this, you can continue to Jervis Bay (Jervis Bay), because it is located on the whale migration road, whales often haunt here, you can sign up for a whale watching group. There are large and small stretches of beaches, ponds, secret caves, small streams suitable for swimming, kayaking, fishing, surfing and more.Stanwell Tops · 623m from downtown

Sydney Fish Market

7.3
4.4/5
479 reviews
The Sydney Fish Market is one of the larger seafood distribution markets in the Southern Hemisphere and a long-standing destination for locals to purchase fresh catches and enjoy seafood. It has now fully relocated from its longtime Pyrmont site to a new venue by Blackwattle Bay, featuring a wave-like roof covered in fish-scale textures that stands out among the bay area's architecture. The market's wholesale tradition continues to this day: every weekday morning, a Dutch-style clock auction begins on time, with seafood arriving overnight from the coasts of New South Wales, as well as Tasmania and New Zealand, showcasing over a hundred varieties in the auction hall. The retail area is the domain of visitors, where crushed ice displays feature Australian lobsters, king crabs, mud crabs, Sydney rock oysters, salmon, snappers, and barramundi, with the constant bustle of oyster shucking, fish filleting, and packing. The venue gathers around forty merchants, including long-established fish stalls like Christie's, Nicholas, and Claudio's, as well as small eateries offering freshly sliced sashimi, Malaysian spicy crab, and New Orleans shrimp burgers. It also features a bakery, artisanal deli, produce stand, and beverage shop. Dining here is casual: grab a plate of freshly shucked rock oysters or sashimi and enjoy it by the waterfront terrace before continuing your stroll. For a sit-down meal, there are restaurants overlooking Blackwattle Bay. If you're curious about the seafood industry, join an official behind-the-scenes tour to witness the early morning wholesale auctions or sign up for a cooking class at the Sydney seafood school to learn how to prepare the day's catch from professional chefs. If it's your first visit and you're unsure where to start, try the freshly made seafood from the deli counter first. For a more budget-friendly option, ask the fishmonger to recommend seasonal lesser-known fish varieties—they're often more affordable than star species like lobster or salmon, without compromising freshness. If taking raw seafood to go, remember to ask the vendor to add ice and pack it in an insulated bag, then refrigerate it as soon as possible.Sydney · 42.5 km from Stanwell Tops

Sydney Harbour Bridge

1.3k reviews
The Sydney Harbour Bridge spans across Sydney Harbour, connecting the city center on the south shore with the north shore, and faces the Sydney Opera House to the east across the water. The iconic duo appears in almost every Sydney postcard. This steel arch bridge, completed in 1932, is majestic: its main arch spans over 500 m, with the arch crown standing more than 130 m above sea level. The approximately 50 m-wide deck accommodates train tracks, car lanes, a bicycle path, and a pedestrian walkway, remaining a vital urban thoroughfare to this day. There are many ways to experience the bridge: you can drive or take a train across it, pass underneath on a sailing boat or ferry, or choose the leisurely option of walking across. The pedestrian walkway is on the eastern side, accessible via stairs from the Rocks or the north shore, while the bicycle path is on the western side. When reaching the south shore, don't miss the tower at the southeastern corner. Climb its roughly 200 steps to the observation deck for a level view of the steel arch and a panoramic harbor vista. The tower also houses an exhibition on the bridge's construction history. For a closer encounter with the sky, join the bridge climb experience: suit up in the provided gear and follow the guide along the arch ribs to the summit. Millions have completed this climb since its inception, with each offering unique views—dawn, daylight, dusk, and night. Gazing down at the Opera House and the entire Sydney Harbour from the top is a highlight for many travelers. On New Year's Eve, the bridge becomes the backdrop for the city's fireworks display, with prime viewing spots along both shores in high demand.Sydney · 45.6 km from Stanwell Tops

Silver Beach

Silver Beachis located on the western edge of the Kurnell Peninsula in Sydney's southern suburbs. It is a stretch of beach facing Botany Bay that spans nearly 3 km, with silvery-white sand, which is how it got its name. The beach is tucked away inside the bay, sheltered from the open ocean's waves, and the water is shallow and calm. A swimming area is netted off in the middle section, making it a popular spot for local families to bring children to play in the water; rows of short stone jetties extend straight into the sea, breaking up the long coastline into segments and creatingSilver Beach's iconic scenery. Compared to those famous surfing beaches in Sydney, it doesn't get many tourists. The beach is mostly filled with locals walking, fishing, and kitesurfing, making it suitable for those who want to avoid the crowds and quietly enjoy the sea breeze. The eastern end of the beach is adjacent to the site where Captain Cook landed in Australia in 1770, now part of Kamay Botany Bay National Park. Follow the footpath at the end, and you can see the landing monument and bronze sculptures shaped like whale bones and ship ribs created by artists; entering the water from the eastern end, you can even snorkel all the way to the waters near the landing site. An off-leash dog area is designated near the boat ramp at the western end, where people with pets often gather. The coastal path is flat and easy to walk, and you can walk all the way to the picnic lawn at Bonna Point; if you happen to be there during the humpback whale northern migration season in June or July, you can also stop by the nearby Cape Solander lookout to wait for the sight of whale pods spouting water.Kurnell · 30.6 km from Stanwell Tops

Hyde Park

Hyde Park is located on the eastern side of Sydney city center. It is a rectangular green space surrounded by high-rise buildings, separated from St Mary's Cathedral by just one road, offering a quiet retreat in the bustling city. The history of this green space dates back to 1810, making it one of the oldest public parks in Australia. Today, it is divided into north and south sections by an east-west avenue, with rows of tall fig trees lining the paths. Lawns, flower beds, sculptures, and fountains are scattered throughout, making it a rare oasis for relaxation in the city center. Most of the attractions in the park have specific names. The Archibald Fountain in the north section was built to commemorate the alliance between France and Australia during World War I. The main statue is the sun god Apollo, with his right hand extended and his left hand holding a lyre. Horses, turtles, and dolphins spray water outward from various tiers of the fountain, which is also surrounded by bronze sculptures from Greek mythology, including the moon goddess, Pan, and Theseus subduing the Minotaur. Here, you can capture the fountain and St Mary's Cathedral across the street in the same frame, which is a representative photo angle in Sydney. On the east side of the boundary between the north and south sections stands a bronze statue of Captain Cook. The obelisk at the northwest corner of the north section, which mimics an ancient Egyptian style, is actually just an underground drainage vent built in the 19th century. Locals jokingly call it "Thornton's Scent Bottle," and it is often mistaken by tourists for a monument. The Anzac Memorial in the south section was completed in 1934. Its Art Deco facade is solemn and dignified, and the long reflecting pool in front of the building adds to the tranquility, providing a stark contrast to the bustle around the fountain in the north section. There are many seats under the shade of trees. On weekday lunchtimes, you can often see office workers sitting down with their meals, while weekends are full of locals picnicking, jogging, playing ball, and sunbathing. Street performers can be seen performing by the fountain from time to time. When visiting, you can start from the fountain, walk south along the tree-lined avenue shaded by fig trees, and go straight to the Anzac Memorial. The route is simple and straightforward, and it won't take long to see the highlights of both sections.Sydney · 43.7 km from Stanwell Tops

Royal Botanic Garden Sydney

882 reviews
Royal Botanic Garden Sydney was established in 1816 and is located on the shores of Farm Cove on the eastern side of Sydney city center, adjacent to the Sydney Opera House. The park spreads along the bay, with waterfront paths connecting various themed gardens. The silhouettes of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House follow you along the way, making it a prime spot for capturing classic photos of Sydney. Most visitors enter from the Opera House side and walk east along the waterfront to Mrs Macquarie's Chair at the end of the park. Standing by Mrs Macquarie's Chair, you get the postcard-perfect angle of the Opera House and the bridge together, which is especially photogenic in the soft light of early morning and evening. Visitors who love plants can explore further: the rose garden is fragrant during the blooming season, while the succulent garden, fernery, and herb garden each have their own charm. The palm grove area preserves old trees planted as early as 1828, and you can even find the Wollemi pine, known as a living fossil, in the garden. The glass greenhouse named The Calyx features a green wall that is one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, showcasing plants with different themes year-round. The park also offers ongoing cultural tours led by local guides, which cover both the plants and the history of the Indigenous people's connection to this bay. Not far from the park exit are the State Library of New South Wales and Parliament House, both of which are impressive and striking buildings, perfect for a quick photo stop. The entire park is easy to explore and perfect for a morning jog or spending half a day relaxing on a picnic blanket. Many visitors include this in the same itinerary as the Opera House.Sydney · 44.6 km from Stanwell Tops

Wattamolla Beach is a very beautiful attraction, and its brilliance is due to a river flowing to the ocean. Because the inflow of the river is not large, the flow between the river and the ocean is often cut off, and it has the function of a lagoon, making it a lake. What is even more rare is that the water of this lake presents a turquoise color, which is matched with the surrounding emerald forests, silver sandy beaches, deep blue sea water and blue sky to form a beautiful picture.Royal National Park · 14.7 km from Stanwell Tops

Sea Cliff Bridge is located on the coastal road in Wollongong, Australia. The scenery is particularly beautiful! Under the blue sky and white clouds, the bridge is next to the turbulent sea, which is endless and a perfect landscape painting! I hope to have the opportunity to visit it again!

Blue Ocean Road is a very comfortable little place. You can also experience some nice little things on the ocean road. It is also an option to keep playing along the road. It is very quiet in the morning, there are not too many people, and it looks very clean.

I always check other people's reviews before each trip for reference and then add my own. Although it was peak season, the crowds weren't large at all, not even comparable to those in China. Just arrive 10-15 minutes before the cruise departure time; e-ticket verification is very quick. You can see the opera house, the harbor bridge, and the coastal residential areas, etc. It's definitely worth a visit!

Lovely doggie beach with the added bonus of watching planes take off and land from Sydney airport. Not many beach areas are dog friendly, we went on a Sunday so it was busy with lots of dogs and people fishing. Also restricted parking when busy and we got a parking ticket for not reading the signs correctly. Beautiful water and sand but no shade, toilets nearby. A nice beach to let your dog run and swim but can be busy.

Hyde Park is basically a free urban park. There's a fountain where you can take photos with St. Mary's Church, but nothing much to do. There's a memorial that you can visit, but it's all in English. It's suitable for taking pictures, checking off your list, or just relaxing and sunbathing. It's a place where locals stroll around, not really considered a tourist attraction.

Surrounded by stunning views of Sydney Harbour and the Opera House, the garden offers a perfect escape from the urban bustle. The beach was clean. The sand was nice for digging. The surf was pretty rough though (probably just due to bad conditions). It was fun watching the hang gliders come down from the headland and land on the beach. There is free parking but it is limited.

Most of the beaches, have the same view. But watamolla has some bonuses. On my side is the laguna cliffs, on the other side is the beach. But be sure to bring some food, there are no food stores there.
