Charles Bridge

4.7/5
1k reviews
The Charles Bridge connects the old town and the small town of Prague. It is a landmark building in Prague, and it is also the oldest stone bridge in the city. It is often said that "you have come to Prague by crossing this bridge". Inscribed on the World Heritage List This is a Gothic stone bridge imitating the Roman Angel Bridge, and it is the only way for the coronation procession of the kings of the past dynasties. In 1992, the Charles Bridge was included in the World Heritage List. When it was first built, its name was "Stone Bridge". It is said that egg yolks are also mixed into the raw mortar for reinforcement. The open-air Baroque Statue Museum Charles Bridge is 516 meters long and has a particularly wide deck. The bridge is known as "Europe's open-air Baroque sculpture gallery". There are various sculptures and reliefs decorated on both sides of the bridge. There are a total of 30 saint sculptures, all of which are masterpieces from Czech masters of the 17th and 18th centuries. It is said that behind each statue there is a touching historical story. Statue of St. John Among the many statues on the Charles Bridge, the statue of St. John is the more famous one and is considered to be the "official" guardian of the Charles Bridge. St. John, a cardinal, offended the king because of the political and religious struggle, and was sentenced to death and thrown into the river. A golden cross is engraved in the middle of the fence, where St. John was thrown from the bridge. Touch the statue and pray for happiness It is said that as long as you touch the statue of Charles Bridge with your heart, you will get a lifetime of happiness. Many bronze reliefs become very bright because too many people touch them. Most of the sculptures on the bridge have now been replaced by replicas, while the originals are kept in Prague's museums. Street artists on the bridge In addition to various statues, the street artists on the bridge are also a unique landscape. There are art painting booths on both sides of the bridge, and many street painters paint on the spot, and most of the themes are taken from the Charles Bridge. In addition, there are some artistic workers who perform with musical instruments, bringing infinite vitality to the Charles Bridge. The bridge tower overlooks the beauty of Prague There are two bridge towers at both ends of the Charles Bridge - the Old Town Bridge Tower and the Small Town Bridge Tower. You can climb the bridge tower and overlook the Charles Bridge and the city of Prague, which is even more beautiful when the sun sets in the evening.Prague · 50.7 km from Terezin

Old Town Square

830 reviews
No "wishing pool" yet still stunning "I stood in the Old Town Square at dusk in Prague, casting hope into the wishing well..." You must have heard Jolin Tsai's "Prague Square," a song depicting the Old Town Square surrounded by medieval architecture. However, the reality is there is no "wishing well" mentioned in the lyrics, but the fairy-tale atmosphere here is enchanting enough. The Old Town Square was built approx. 900 years ago and is a historically renowned square in Prague, located between Wenceslas Square and Charles Bridge. It is also the heart of the city, bustling with crowds every summer. Public square highlights At the center of the square stands a statue of Jan Hus built in 1915, erected to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of the Charles University rector. The surrounding buildings showcase diverse architectural styles, ranging from Gothic masterpieces like the Church of Our Lady before Týn to Baroque gems such as St. Nicholas Church. A major attraction for visitors is the Prague astronomical clock on the Old Town Hall facade. On the hour, the clock chimes as windows above it open, revealing a procession of 12 apostle figures that bow to the crowd. If interested, you can also climb the tower of the old town hall to overlook the panoramic view of the old town. The roofs in the city are almost all painted red, while the slightly protruding spires of clock towers and churches are green. They are scattered yet orderly throughout the city, and the vivid colors give Prague a fairy-tale charm. Public square activity The old town square is not only a popular tourist destination but also frequently used for new year celebrations, holiday markets (Christmas and Easter) and rally activities. On ordinary days, there are many street performers in the square, and many local youth come here to take wedding photos. The square is surrounded by many cafes. If you're tired from exploring, you can order a coffee at an outdoor cafe, and don't miss the grilled sausages and ice cream. Enjoying the music and dance performances on the square is truly refreshing. The alleys around the square are lined with small shops selling various art goods—if you like them, you can buy some as souvenirs.Prague · 50.9 km from Terezin

Museum Island

8.4
4.7/5
471 reviews
Museum Island is located in the center of Berlin, a museum complex at the northern end of Spree Island, with the river flowing around both sides. In 1999, this complex was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. At the southern end, the Altes Museum faces the Berlin Cathedral across the tree-lined Lustgarten. Moving northward, the Neues Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, and Pergamon Museum are lined up in order, with the Bode Museum completing the island's tip. These five buildings, constructed in different eras with distinct styles, form a continuous riverside ensemble, allowing visitors to explore a complete exhibition route on foot. Each museum has its own strengths. The Altes Museum in Berlin, completed in 1830, features a neoclassical facade designed by architect Schinkel, supported by rows of stone columns. Its grand domed hall primarily houses ancient Greek and Roman artworks. The Neues Museum suffered severe damage during World War II and intentionally retained some war scars during its 2009 renovation. It now hosts the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, with the painted bust of Queen Nefertiti as its star attraction. The Alte Nationalgalerie focuses on 19th-century paintings, showcasing both Caspar David Friedrich's romantic landscapes and works by French impressionists like Manet, Monet and Renoir. The Pergamon Museum is renowned for full-scale reconstructions of ancient structures, with the Pergamon Altar, Market Gate of Miletus and Ishtar Gate of Babylon as its signature exhibits. The Bode Museum combines sculpture collections, Byzantine art and hundreds of thousands of ancient coins within a Baroque building. When not visiting exhibitions, strolling on the island is equally delightful: street musicians often perform in the gardens, offering a perfect chance to rest and listen before walking to the bridge to admire the unique urban scenery of five museums lining the riverbank. △The Pergamon Museum is undoubtedly one of the most popular museums and also one of the world's renowned archaeological museums. The solemn and majestic gray building exterior easily evokes associations with various ancient architectures. Upon entering through the central gate, the left side houses the ancient Roman and Greek collections, while the right side features the ancient Near East exhibition. The second floor is dedicated to Islamic culture. The museum's crown jewel—the Pergamon Altar—is not to be missed. Dating back to the 2nd century BCE, this 9.66 m high altar features exquisitely carved deity figures on its base. Additionally, the Market Gate of Miletus from the 2nd century BCE and the Ishtar Gate of Babylon are also highly worth seeing. △The old museum in Berlin opened in 1830 and is a historic museum on Museum Island. This museum follows the neoclassical architectural style, with its facade supported by 18 parallel columns. The main hall inside is spherical, topped by a striking large circular dome. The old museum displays a rich collection of ancient Greek and Roman art treasures. △At the old national art gallery, you can admire masterpieces by impressionist masters such as Manet, Monet, and Renoir. △The Bode Museum is located on the outer side of Museum Island, built between 1898 and 1904. This Baroque-style building features a triangular layout and houses three unique small museums: the German Byzantine Art Museum, showcasing various artistic masterpieces from the Byzantine Empire; the Coin Museum, displaying 500,000 ancient coin exhibits; and the Sculpture Museum, which houses Germany's premier collection of medieval sculptures. △The new museum in Berlin was built in 1855 and was severely damaged in the bombings of World War II, leaving it in ruins. After reopening in 2009, it serves as the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, featuring exhibits such as the bust of Nefertiti, wife of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten, and other artworks from the Akhenaten period. Additionally, the new museum displays unearthed artifacts from prehistoric times, ancient history, and the Stone Age. △Besides visiting museums, strolling and relaxing on Museum Island is also a great choice. The lush Lustgarten offers a beautiful environment, and street performers playing lovely music add to the charming scenery. When tired, you might as well sit down and enjoy it.Germany · Berlin

The Vltava River is the mother river of the Czech Republic. It originates from the forests of southwestern Bohemia and joins the city of Mirnik in the north of the capital Prague and the Elbe River. The second symphonic poem in the Czech symphonic poem "My Motherland" is a picturesque scene depicting the river. The beautiful Vltava River divides Prague into two parts, with the Old Town and the New Town on the east bank and the Small Town on the west bank. There are more than a dozen ancient or modern bridges across the river, connecting the urban areas on both sides of the river. Among them, the Charles Bridge, which connects the old town and the small town of Prague, is decorated with various sculptures and reliefs on both sides of the bridge. You can stroll along the Vltava River and enjoy the scenery of the medieval city on both sides. Or take a cruise and see the beauty of Prague from a different angle. There are cruise boats along the river pier in the city center. The boat journey is usually about 1 hour. Along the way, you can overlook the Prague Castle, Rudolph Concert Hall and other iconic sights.Prague · 51.1 km from Terezin

Old Townis situated on both banks of the Vltava in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, and is a core component of Prague's historic center. This area was built between the 11th and 18th centuries, and the Old Town, Lesser Town, and New Town have been renowned for their profound architectural and cultural influence since the Middle Ages. Old Town Square is the heart of the entire area. Located between Wenceslas Square and Charles Bridge, it has served as a site for markets and celebrations since the Middle Ages and is now the center of the entire Old Town. The square is surrounded by numerous attractions: the Church of Our Lady before Týn, with its grey-black twin spires, is a representative example of Gothic architecture, and it appears even more mysterious when illuminated at night.Prague · 50.8 km from Terezin

Dancing HouseOriginally known as the Nationale-Nederlanden building, it is located on the banks of the Vltava in Prague's New Town. Designed by Czech architect Vlado Milunić and Frank Gehry, it was completed in 1996 and is a work of deconstructivist architecture. The building consists of two towers, one rigid and one fluid, embracing each other: the concrete tower is upright and structured, representing the suited male dancer Fred; the glass tower cinches at the waist and flares outward, like the female dancer Ginger with her skirt swirling. The entire structure is thus nicknamed "Fred and Ginger," a tribute to the classic Hollywood screen dance partners. This avant-garde design contrasts sharply with the Baroque, Gothic, and Art Nouveau buildings common in Prague. The design faced much dispute when first announced, but today it has become one of the iconic examples of modern architecture in Prague.Prague · 51.9 km from Terezin

Church of Our Lady before Týn

Tyn Church is located in Prague's Old Town Square and is one of the conspicuous buildings in the Old Town. The gray-black Gothic spires and twin towers are its more prominent symbols, and the whole church is deep and mysterious. Historical background The history of the Tyn Church dates back to the 12th century and was originally a Romanesque church. In the 14th century, Peter Parléř, who presided over the construction of the Charles Bridge and St. Vitus Cathedral, took over the construction of the Tyn Church, and in 1380 changed it into the Gothic church we see today. The Tyn Church occupies an important place in Prague's history and has been the symbol of the Czech state and the Prague Cathedral since the time of the Huss. The beautiful High Tower Tien Church is a representative building in the old town of Prague. A pair of bell towers are towering like clouds, reaching 80 meters high, forming the front of the church. Each tower has 4 spires, which constitutes a "tower in a tower". "Wonderful sight. The top of the tower is decorated with slender round rods of pure gold, which look like flames from a distance. If you look closely at these two towers, you will find that they are slightly different. One of them looks taller and more majestic, and is said to represent Adam, while the other symbolizes Eve. On the triangular roof between the towers, there is a pure gold statue of the Virgin Mary, which is very dazzling in the sunlight. The main entrance of the Tien Church is located on the west side, and you need to pass through the narrow alley in front to reach it. The facade is very inconspicuous. You can also enter from the north gate. The curved zenith relief of Jesus on the cross at the north gate is by Peter Paller himself, which is worth seeing. The interior of the church is magnificent, the main altar is decorated with gold leaf, and the decorative painting is from the Czech painter Karl Skreta. The church also preserves the old Prague pipe organ, which is an outstanding representative of the European pipe organ in the 17th century. The great Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe is also buried here, and you can pay homage to his exquisite marble tombstone. The Tien College next to the church preserves the Gothic arcades of the 14th century. Now it has been converted into restaurants and cafes. Because it faces the Old Town Square, it is a good location for rest and sightseeing. It is often crowded. If you are tired, you may come here. Sitting here. After visiting the church, you can go to the nearby Old Town Hall and Prague Astronomical Clock to take a look. It is also worth mentioning that the Tien Church at night is more mysterious under the illumination of the lights. Don't forget to come and see its charm.Prague · 50.9 km from Terezin

Malá Stranais located on the west bank of the Vltava and is connected to the Old Town by Charles Bridge. Historically a district where nobles and clergy resided, it remains famous today for its collection of Baroque palaces, churches, and cobblestone streets. The center of the district is Lesser Town Square, which is divided into upper and lower sections by St. Nicholas Church (Malá Strana). This church defines the skyline of the district with its striking dome and bell tower, and its interior, featuring expansive dome frescoes and white decorations, is also worth a close look. From Lesser Town Square, you can walk uphill along Nerudova Street all the way to Prague Castle. The old houses along the way still retain their house signs; patterns like the Green Lobster, Golden Key, and Red Eagle were once used in place of house numbers, and searching for these signs while walking is part of the fun of this slope. If you want to get a view from above, Petrin Hill on the west side of the district has walking trails and an observation tower, where you can overlook the red roofs of the district and the spires of the Old Town.Prague · 50.4 km from Terezin

Historic Center of Cesky Krumlovis located in the South Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. The Vltava River winds through the town, creating a bend that almost encircles the Old Town. The town unfolds in layers around a castle built in the 13th century, featuring a blend of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture. Thanks to over five centuries of stable development, the medieval street layout has been preserved almost entirely. Red-tiled roofs, winding cobblestone streets, and old houses with painted facades form the backdrop of the Old Town. In Central Europe, which has been ravaged by war several times, such a complete and well-preserved medieval town is rare. The castle complex in the town is second in size in the Czech Republic only to Prague Castle. The round tower with its painted facade is the landmark of the entire town, and climbing it offers a panoramic view of the Old Town embraced by the river bend.Czech Republic · Cesky Krumlov

Charles Bridge is one of the most famous landmarks in Prague and a wonderful place to visit. The historic stone bridge is full of beautiful statues and offers amazing views of the Vltava River, Prague Castle, and the city’s old buildings. I enjoyed walking across the bridge, watching local artists, musicians, and street performers, which created a lively atmosphere. The bridge is especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset when the light makes the scenery even more impressive. It is also a great place to take photos and enjoy the city’s history. Overall, Charles Bridge is a must-visit attraction that combines history, culture, and beautiful views, making it one of the highlights of any trip to Prague.

Prague's Old Town Square doesn't have a wishing well, but when the Astronomical Clock strikes the hour, the twelve apostles' figures emerge from the windows, always drawing a large crowd. The spires of the Church of Our Lady before Týn are a dark gray, like two flames. Pigeons perch on the Jan Hus statue in the center of the square year-round. Turning into the alleyways, you can buy cinnamon rolls, piping hot and sprinkled with powdered sugar. In the evening, as the lights come on, the sound of horse-drawn carriages crunching on the cobblestones is crisp and clear; sitting in an open-air seat watching people come and go is quite relaxing.

The Vltava River is the "mother river" of the Czech Republic, connecting historic districts on both banks. The Gothic and Baroque buildings along the river are reflected in the water, and boats passing by seem to be walking into a flowing oil painting, making it incredibly romantic.

There are so many things that come to mind when you think of the Czech Republic, but I think the Old Town is the most famous tourist attraction in the Czech Republic. The floor is paved with uneven stones, so if you wear high heels or shoes and walk... it feels painful just thinking about it. There are so many delicious things to see in the Old Town, so I want to go there again.ㅠㅠ

The Dancing House, also known as the "Fred and Ginger House", is named after Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, a metaphor for a pair of dancers. The Dancing House stands out among the Neo-Baroque, Neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau buildings. It is a very famous and representative building in Prague. The Dancing House is also known as the "Drunken House".

The Old Town of Prague is full of the flavor of a Central European city. The economy of Central Europe is relatively less developed than that of Western Europe and Southern Europe, so the city looks more like an old era, and the infrastructure is relatively old, but it looks quite comfortable. Another feature of the Old Town of Prague is that what looks like a house may actually be a street, and you can cross different streets, which feels a bit like a maze.
