Fort Frederick
Located in the heart of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, the fort sits on the cliffs of Swami Rock, offering spectacular views of the surrounding area, especially at sunset. It was originally built by the Portuguese in the 17th century and named "Fort Triquillimale". In 1624, the Dutch seized and expanded the fort. Nilaveli Beach

Sigiriya Lion Rock
Sigiriya Lion Rock is the site of a palace in the sky built atop a nearly 200m-high orange-red giant rock. In the 5th century, King Kashyapa I built the royal palace on the summit, and during his 18-year reign, he completed this complex that integrates a palace, gardens, and a fortress. It was later lost in the jungle for a long time until it was rediscovered in modern times, and today it is a representative monument in Sri Lanka's Cultural Golden Triangle. The entire site unfolds layer by layer from bottom to top. At the foot of the mountain are symmetrical water gardens surrounded by a moat. The ancient water system was ingeniously designed, and the fountains can still spout water by gravity during the rainy season. A pair of giant lion paws halfway up the mountain are the remains of the lion-shaped palace gate from that time. The brick lion body and head have long since collapsed and weathered, and now one can only imagine its former grandeur from the stone steps between the paws. Upon reaching the summit, the platform retains the ruins of the palace and reservoirs. In my opinion, the temple is very beautiful for its sacredness; it's one of five places in Sri Lanka that protects against disasters. And it has a spectacular view of the ocean. It's said to be one of the best places in the world to watch whales from land.

The environment here is very good. There are hardly any Riholas in the sand. The bathing beach is very beautiful.

The hotel we stayed in was right next to the beach. The beach was not the hotel's private beach, but there were very few tourists. For people like us who were not in a hurry, it was very pleasant to have a drink and sunbathe on the beach.

Fantastic visit and the highlight of our 1 day tour from Colombo. There is a water station halfway if you need to refill your bottle and on less busy days there is some limited shade at the top. Breathtaking views from the top.
