Hirosaki Castle, also known as Takaoka Castle, was the residence of the Tsugaru clan of the Hirosaki Domain during the Edo period, with a value of approx. 47,000 koku. The entire castle adopts a teikaku-shiki (ladder-style) hirayamajiro (flatland-mountain castle) layout, consisting of six parts: the Honmaru (main bailey), Ninomaru (second bailey), Sannomaru (third bailey), Yonnomaru (fourth bailey), Kitanokuruwa (north bailey), and Nishinokuruwa (west bailey), surrounded by three layers of moats, with castle structures such as stone walls and earthen ramparts still well-preserved today. The castle keep here is one of the 12 remaining castle keeps in Japan and the only one in the Tohoku region from the Edo period. The original keep was a five-story building, which was destroyed in 1627 due to a gunpowder explosion caused by a lightning strike, and was not rebuilt for nearly 200 years. The existing Gosankai-yagura (three-story turret) was built in 1810; it was approved for construction under the name of a turret but actually serves the function of a castle keep, and is a three-story, three-tiered tower-style building. The park is planted with over 2,000 cherry trees of approx. 50 varieties, including Somei Yoshino, weeping cherry, and double-flowered cherry trees, making it a premier cherry blossom viewing spot.Hirosaki · 17 km from Tsuruta

This year the cherry blossoms in Japan bloomed early, so the Easter long holiday specially found a day to go to Hirosaki Castle to see the cherry blossoms 🌸 Just the cherry blossoms are almost in full bloom, the scenery is beautiful, I highly recommend you to see the next cherry blossom time 😊

Parking is 300 yen a day, and the first 30 minutes are free. If you go early, you can get back in 30 minutes round trip. Pets are not allowed, and smoking is prohibited inside the facility.

This is a ski resort that I go to at least once a year. Although there isn't a large variety of runs, it's not crowded and the slopes are wide, so you can ski comfortably. Lift tickets are also reasonably priced, so it's also a good training spot for local skiers.
