The Danza River and Binglang River, which originate from Tengchong County, merge in the old city of Yingjiang County and are called Daying River. After passing the Tiger Leaping Stone, it flows out of the country from the Nanben River Mouth, flows into the Irrawaddy River in Myanmar, and then flows into the Bay of Bengal. The total length of Daying River is 204.5 kilometers, and the length in Yingjiang County is 145.5 kilometers. Tips: There is a steel-concrete bridge in Yingjiang County, which is 7 meters wide and 371 meters long. It is one of the longest highway bridges in Yunnan Province. In the flood season, it looks like a long rainbow lying on the waves from a distance, which is very spectacular.Yingjiang · 733m from downtown

Heshun Ancient Town

8.1
4.4/5
6.5k reviews
Heshun Ancient Town is located southwest of Tengchong city, a borderland ancient town with over 600 years of history. Originally settled by military households guarding the frontier, the village was named "Heshun" (meaning "river follows") due to a small river encircling it. Later, locals refined the name to its current form, inspired by the phrase "scholars harmonious, people compliant." As Yunnan's renowned hometown of overseas Chinese and a key caravan hub on the Southwest Silk Road, generations of ancestors traveled to Myanmar for trade—their descendants now spread across more than ten countries and regions. Here, traditional central plains family values, borderland customs, and Western influences brought back from Southeast Asia blend seamlessly in the alleyways, making the entire town resemble an open-air museum of Sino-Western architectural fusion. The ancient town rises gradually along the mountain facing the flatland, with ancestral halls, memorial archways, and old residences from the Ming and Qing dynasties spreading across the slopes. Clan ancestral halls like the Cun and Liu family halls line the alleys—the Liu ancestral hall stands by a stream, housing a teahouse where visitors can sit and enjoy hot tea brewed with Longtan spring water and chestnut charcoal fire. The curved building dwelling museum gets its name from structures following the winding lanes, featuring three courtyards with ingenious East-meets-West designs; the TV series "Beijing Love Story" filmed scenes here. Crossing Shuanghong Bridge leads to a hillside library founded in the late 1920s by overseas Chinese from Myanmar, still serving locals with its 100,000-volume collection today. Ai Siqi's former residence, the Jade King's house, Zhongtian Temple, Wenchang Palace, and the Sino-Myanmar Anti-Japanese War Museum each hold unique histories worth exploring in depth. A clear stream winds around the village, with weeping willows brushing the banks. Along the river stand several laundry pavilions built successively since the Guangxu era of the Qing dynasty—a thoughtful gesture from men traveling abroad to their families back home, providing shelter for women washing clothes by the river. This earned them the poetic name "wifeloving pavilions." Watching locals pound laundry and chat by these pavilions offers a deeper taste of the ancient town's daily life than hurried checkins. The lanes of Heshun gather shops preserving old crafts like shadow puppetry, rattan weaving, and traditional papermaking, perfect for a leisurely stroll. Heshun takes its food seriously: the local specialty "Dajiu Jia" (literally "life-saving dish") is actually stir-fried rice cakes, thinly sliced and cooked with eggs, ham, and pickled vegetables—oily, fragrant, and named after a legend involving an exiled emperor. The pine pollen cakes from old street-side shops, made with pine pollen and red beans, are delicately sweet and soft. Sweet "Tounao," slow-cooked earthen pot stews, and the traditional banquet "Sandishui" served only for guests are all worth saving room for. The ancient town is sizable—too big to explore in one day—so consider staying at an inn converted from an old residence, many of which retain their original two- or three-courtyard layouts. Wake up naturally, enjoy a bowl of Dajiu Jia at the town entrance, then bask in the sun by the riverside laundry pavilion, adjusting to the rhythm of Heshun life.Tengchong · 62.8 km from Yingjiang

The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda Culture Tourist Area is located 1.5 km north of Dali Ancient Town, serving as the royal temple during the Dali Kingdom period. With Erhai Lake to the east and Cangshan Mountain's Yinglue Peak to the west, the scenery here is exceptionally beautiful. The three pagodas were originally part of Chongsheng Temple. While the temple seen today is a reconstruction, the pagodas remain as millennia-old relics and a major highlight for visitors. The tour route begins at the attraction's main gate, where the three pagodas immediately come into view atop the central axis staircase. The large central pagoda, called Qianxun Pagoda, stands majestically with two smaller pagodas to its north and south, forming a grand tripartite layout. The three pagodas resemble the Small Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an. The perfect spot to photograph them is the "Three Pagodas Reflection Pool" in the Three Pagodas Reflection Park located diagonally behind them, where travelers can capture the pagodas and their reflections in the water. Many travelers take photos here as souvenirs. Walking around the pagodas and following the central axis inward, visitors can view Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom artifacts excavated during the pagodas' restoration at the cultural relics exhibition hall, admire the 16-ton Nanzhao Jianji Bell in the bell tower, see the Rain Copper Guanyin in the Rain Copper Guanyin Hall, and finally arrive at the Chongsheng Temple. The current Chongsheng Temple was rebuilt in 2005, boasting a grand scale that reflects the imperial monastery's grandeur during the Nanzhao and Dali periods. The temple houses over 10,000 dragon designs of various types, making it the temple with the most dragon depictions in China. Additionally, it features one of the country's largest cowhide drums, measuring 3.1 m in diameter and made from a single piece of cowhide, which is worth seeing.China · Dali City

Beihai Wetland

Tengchong Beihai Wetland National AAAA-level attraction is located 12.5km northeast of Tengchong City, Yunnan Province. It is the only volcanic barrier lake floating carpet wetland in China. The attraction is surrounded by mountains. It is a subtropical volcanic rock barrier lake formed by the eruption of Cenozoic volcanoes 600,000 years ago. The nutrient-rich volcanic ash has nurtured a large area of meadows floating on the water, forming a colorful giant floating carpet on the water. The wetland is famous for its biodiversity due to its three-dimensional ecosystem composed of alpine forests, floating carpets on the water surface and barrier lakes. It is known as the "Kidney of the Earth" and "Gene Bank of Wetland Species". More than 300 years ago, Xu Xiake, a traveler in the Ming Dynasty, visited here in person. In his "Yunnan Travel Diary", he left a description of the magical landscape of Beihai Wetland: "The lake is as large as a thousand acres, with green weeds in the middle, and the bottom is like floating grass. There are also streams running through it, but they cannot rise." The altitude here is 1,750 meters, with negative oxygen ions as high as 16,000/cubic centimeter, and PM2.5 less than 10 all year round. It is a world-recognized longevity and livable altitude zone. It is a good place for you to escape the heat and cold, enjoy beautiful scenery and fresh oxygen, and have a good vacation. You can take a small boat and bamboo raft to roam in the water, feel the company of fish, shrimps and birds, the breeze is gentle, the water is calm, and you are at ease. Here you can experience grass rafts, stepping on grass, stepping on fish, grilling fish, etc., and enjoy the fun of nature. There is a floating water plank road here, allowing you to get closer to many precious birds and exotic flowers and plants in the wetland, including the blue-headed duck known as the "giant panda among birds", the "giant panda among plants" Brasenia schrenkiana and hundreds of other rare animals and plants, and experience the vivid fun of the natural classroom. Here, you can experience the unique four-season experience of "appreciating the romance of irises in spring", "enjoying the coolness of the sea of clouds in summer", "shooting the colorful sea of flowers in autumn", and "watching the flock of migratory birds in winter", and enjoy the beautiful encounter between the mountains and the sea in the Beihai Wetland.Tengchong · 77.8 km from Yingjiang

It's a big lake, very beautiful. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery from a boat. There are few tourists, so it's suitable for self-driving. The scenery is like Qiandao Lake in Hangzhou.

The wetland park in Yingjiang County is a little worse in the dry season and there is no wetland, but you can see the Yingjiang River. It is very meaningful to accompany my father to see the place where he worked as an educated youth for 8 years ~ and touch the water of Yingjiang River!

I visited Heshun Ancient Town last October. The weather was great; it was even warm enough to wear short sleeves on hot days. Occasional rain was brief, and most importantly, there were no mosquitoes by then. I stayed in a guesthouse inside the ancient town. The guesthouse owner would tell me the nearest taxi stand, making it quite convenient to get around the town. The ancient town is quite large, and there are performances on holidays; it's quite nice to explore.

The weather down the mountain was actually quite nice, a bit overcast but the temperature was alright. As the cable car ascended higher and higher, the entire Dali city and Erhai Lake slowly came into view below. That stretch of scenery was truly worthwhile; looking down through the cable car glass, I finally had a truly concrete feeling about "Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake" for the first time.

I climbed Leiya Rang Mountain at 5 PM. The 108 steps were flanked by golden dragons cascading down the slope, and I arrived at the pagoda just in time for sunset. The 76-meter-high Meng Huan Golden Pagoda is gilded, and the setting sun cast a golden glow, enhancing its shimmering quality. Walking clockwise around the prayer wheel along the prayer corridor, the wind chimes on the pagoda's roof jingled in the breeze, a sound that could be heard throughout half of Mangshi. Standing on the viewing platform for a 360° panoramic view was truly exhilarating—below me stretched the terraced houses of the Dai ethnic minority in the Mangshi plain, while in the distance, mountain mists clung to the border. Turning my head, I could even frame the pure white Meng Huan Silver Pagoda across the valley; the gold and silver pagodas facing each other across the valley created a much more photogenic scene than photographing just one pagoda alone. The 7 PM lighting was a hidden climax, transforming the entire pagoda from golden to a warm orange, as if someone had lit a fire inside it. Looking back on the way down, the golden pagoda floated in the night, instantly capturing the slow-paced, borderland spirit of Mangshi. A word of caution: the towers are extremely reflective during the day, so be sure to go in the evening; you need to take off your shoes before entering the main hall, and wearing sandals is the easiest way; allow 2 hours for visiting both the Gold and Silver Towers.

The Three Pagodas are iconic landmarks of Dali. Although the ticket price is not cheap, and all the buildings except the Three Pagodas are newly built, they are still worth seeing. The entire scenic area is built on the mountainside and covers a large area. It takes about one and a half to two hours to walk the whole way. When you reach the highest point, you can see the entire Erhai Lake on one side and Cangshan Mountain on the other. If you are not physically fit, you can choose to take a sightseeing bus.

I hadn't originally planned to visit Beihai Wetland, but since I had some extra time, I went just for a stroll. I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful scenery, the lack of crowds, and the tranquility. In the morning, many unidentified birds were leisurely strolling around. I sat by the lake, sipping coffee and watching the birds. I took some photos and sent them to a friend, who was captivated and came to visit too.
