Taierzhuang Ancient Town

Taierzhuang Ancient Town is located in the southeast of Zaozhuang, at the central point of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Taierzhuang is a famous water town north of the Yangtze River and a canal ancient town. Here, you can stroll through quiet alleys, stand on ancient bridges to watch boats come and go, or take a painted boat to cruise along the canal. When you are tired from wandering, find a quiet teahouse or a riverside coffee bar to sit down, read a book, space out, and enjoy all kinds of coziness. Compared with the water towns of Jiangnan, this place has an added sense of historical charm and the vicissitudes of war. The Battle of Taierzhuang in 1938 reduced this ancient city to ruins; the ancient city seen today is the result of comprehensive reconstruction, with many attractions rebuilt on their original sites. Today, more than fifty battlefield sites can still be seen in the reconstructed Taierzhuang. The ancient town's rich architectural styles are a major highlight. Among the streets and alleys, you can see not only Lunan residences and northern courtyards, but also Huizhou-style buildings, Hakka buildings, and even European-style architecture. Interestingly, you will also find that major religious buildings such as Taierzhuang Ancient Town - Guandi Temple, Taierzhuang Ancient Town - Tianhou Palace, Taishan Temple, Mosque, and Catholic Church all gather in this ancient town. In addition, the ancient town features other attractions such as the Taierzhuang Battle Site Park, Taierzhuang Ancient Town - Dafu Di, Shanxi Guild Hall, Museum of Upright Officials, Canjiang Office, and Lanting Shuyu. Among them, the Huizhou-style building "Taierzhuang Ancient Town - Dafu Di" was once the former residence of the local notable Jia Sanjin; the "Shanxi Guild Hall" is a large-scale Jin-style building that also enshrines Emperor Guan. The attraction is located at the border between Shandong and Jiangsu provinces, where you can experience the customs of southern Shandong and northern Jiangsu. You will see peddlers carrying shoulder poles and shaking rattle drums as they pass through the streets, and hear vendors selling candied hawthorn berries calling out loudly. You can also listen to a performance of Canal drum singing or enjoy a piece of Liuqin opera. There are also southern Shandong shadow puppetry, lion dance performances, acrobatic performances, and a costume performance reenacting Emperor Qianlong's tour of Taierzhuang — all wonderful shows not to be missed. Every night, the buildings of the ancient town glow with radiant colors under the lights, and the beauty of the night scene rivals that of the famous water towns in Jiangnan. Here you can taste the famous local yellow flower beef noodles,Feng family donkey meat, as well as specialty dishes such as jianbing and canal stone-baked flatbread,Wanfu Gardenand other local specialty snacks such as mutton soup.Zaozhuang · 47.5 km from downtown

Guishan Scenic Area is located in Mengzhuang Town, 16 kilometers northeast of Zaozhuang City. It is close to the only medium-sized reservoir in the area, Zhoucun Reservoir, and faces Baodugu Forest Park to the north. It is surrounded by mountains on the west and south, including Guishan, Sheshan and Huangshan. The basin area is about 6,000 acres. There are dozens of scenic spots in the Attraction, including the larger ones such as the karst cave, Guanyin Hall, Shanzhai, Mummy Tomb, Jiulong Stone, Eagle Stone, Bagua Garden, Monkey Mountain, Water Park, etc. The spring breeze of reform and opening up has made this historic mountain, which has been dusty for many years, show itself to the world in a brand new posture. Guishan Mountain is named after its shape which resembles a crouching turtle. It is over 300 meters above sea level. The mountaintop is surrounded by steep cliffs and is covered with flagpole eye stands set up by the heroes of the past dynasties. Only the south and north sides can be climbed up and down naturally. There is Guishan Woquan between Guishan Mountain and Sheshan Mountain. The spring water flows down the mountain stream with a ding-dong sound. There is also an ancient mummy tomb from the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty and the ruins of Guishan Temple on the mountain. There are many natural caves on the cliff on the west side of the mountain. There are stalactites and stalagmites of various shapes in the caves. It is a Shandong Provincial Geopark. Guishan has a long history. From the Yin Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, traces of the ancestors' activities are all over the mountaintop, with finely engraved Bagua diagrams, the Ziyun Temple with smoke-filled incense, and the magnificent ancient mountain village. The mountain has majestic peaks and strange rocks, dense forests, a sea of flowers in spring, abundant fruits in autumn, and lush green all year round. At the foot of the mountain is the Zhoucun Reservoir, with sparkling waves and leafy boats, which is beautiful. The mountains and rivers reflect each other, which is really a vivid landscape painting. The first cave in southern Shandong is even more amazing. The cave is more than 600 meters long, with caves connected to caves, crisscrossing. In the cave, stalactites are upside down, stalagmites are everywhere, dripping water, and stone walls are towering, which is both wonderful and spectacular. Especially the stalactites and stalagmites, which are in various shapes and lifelike.Zaozhuang · 35.9 km from downtown

The hotel has a great location, very close to the South Gate; it's just a few minutes' walk if you have luggage. The receptionist, Xiao Zhao, was very welcoming and professional. Before we arrived, she added us on WeChat to give us directions. Once inside the ancient city, she provided accurate information on the times and locations of various performances. She also gave us a detailed hand-drawn map, explained things, and marked the spots, along with WeChat reminders, so we never missed a show.

Only the film and television city charges, but it is free for people over 60 years old. Other places don't charge as long as you bring your ID card. Parking is convenient. It is recommended to take a day to go, otherwise it is a bit too rushed.

Great value, beyond expectations. I didn't expect that such a professional lantern festival could be held in this rural area. It is highly recommended. Parking is convenient. There is parking at the gate. I wanted to rent a wheelchair, but they said that the wheelchair was rented out and the remaining two could not be used.

It takes about ten minutes to walk from Taierzhuang Ancient City, which is very convenient. The Battle of Taierzhuang is worth remembering! Photography is not allowed in the memorial hall, so here are some photos of the ancient city😊

It's a pity that we didn't see the Big and Small Rift Valleys. The mountain road was too steep, and the weather was too hot. We turned back less than 1/4 of the way. I recommend buying hiking sticks. There are charging stations in the parking lot below, which is very friendly to friends who drive trams. But if possible, you should still find a way to drive the car into the ticket gate so that you can walk less.

When we went, it was the hottest time of the day. There were many steps leading up to the top, but a small stream allowed children to play. The biggest problem was the sheer number of mosquitoes; everyone was bitten and frustrated! If you're bringing children, you absolutely must bring mosquito repellent spray. It's also sold at the mountaintop rest area for 10 yuan a bottle.

I wanted to take photos of every collection in the Tengzhou Museum and share them with you. This trip to Tengzhou was really worthwhile. I got to know the profound history and culture of Tengzhou and it made up for the gaps in history learning when I was in school!
