At the Edge of Australia's Mainland: Wilsons Promontory National Park

“Affectionately known as "The Prom," Wilsons Promontory National Park (NP) marks the southernmost tip of mainland Australia.”@Jimmyonflights · 9 months ago

This is the most worth visiting national park in Australia

“Walking into Wilsons Promontory National Park is like stepping into the purest and most tranquil embrace of nature in Australia.”@Biu’s Travel Diary · 1 year ago
If you thought that Cape Wilson was just a swath of endless coastline, you were totally wrong! This time I chose the "Wilsons Promontory Cruises" to take you out to sea to play around the Antarctic coast, although encountered rain, but along the magnificent scenery, cute dolphin sea lions (and quite cool Skull Rock) did not miss, even the rain becomes a healing experience.

⛵ Trip highlights inventory
This time I signed up for Wilsons Promontory Cruises, the sea speedboat is exciting and safe. The most amazing things along the way were the groups of jumping dolphins and lazily sunbathing sea lions, which were shocking to see up close! Even if it rains, the trip is not in vain, especially to Skull Rock, which looks like a giant skull and is very spectacular!

🏝️ Attraction recommendation
Wilsons Promontory Cruises
Address: Tidal River Cinema, Tidal River VIC 3960, Australia
Opening hours: 09:00 - 17:00 year-round

This trip will take you around the headland waters, photographing different angles of the cliffs and clear blue waters. The speedboat will stop at several key locations, which is super convenient for taking photos and checking in.
· Biggest selling point: chance to see wild sea lions, dolphins, and when lucky, penguins.
· Must-see scene: Skull Rock, as spectacular as an alien ruins, great for photography.

⛈️ Tips & Real Perceptions
Even if you encounter cloudy and rainy days, the speedboat activity will not be bad. It is recommended that you remember to bring your own waterproof jacket or raincoat. Speedboats are faster and some sections will be bumpy, so if you are prone to seasickness remember to take dizziness medicine (the shipping company may also provide it). And the employees are attentive and down-to-earth, taking the initiative to help us take pictures, introduce the ecology, full of interaction, is the small pleasure of travel.

🍴Food & Practical Info
Tidal River Campground has a vending stand where you can buy some snacks and hot drinks (hot chocolate or coffee is especially recommended, just warm after the speedboat!). After your tour, you can take a walk on the adjacent beach, surrounded by pristine ecology.
· Tidal River General Store, a dining spot nearby
  Address: Tidal River VIC 3960, Australia
  Business Hours: 08:30 AM - 16:30 PM

🚗Transportation guide
It takes about 2.5-3 hours to drive directly to the Tidal River from Melbourne. It is recommended to leave early to avoid the crowds and be sure to book your speedboat trip early during peak hours. The parking lot is near the visitor center, about a few minutes walk to the pier.

🎒 Summary Tips
· Cloudy or sunny, Cape Wilson is worth experiencing in person;
· Book a speedboat online in advance and keep an eye on sea conditions that day;
· Outdoor activities pay attention to warmth, sun protection and waterproof;
· Bring a camera phone, shooting sea views, wildlife on the speedboat are super shocking!

The rain does not stop the beauty of the journey, this little adventure you must try!

Norman beach

“#summerbeachnights If you find yourself in Wilsons Promontory National Park, be sure to visit Norman Beach—a vast beach on the Tidal River with white sand, ocean, and views of mountains and islands.”@CONANHORDE · 1 month ago
Ready to escape Melbourne for a day? 😎 Here’s the lowdown on Wilsons Promontory and its legendary Squeaky Beach—just a chill, 3-hour drive (about 222km) out of the city. What’s cool? Think pure white sand, crystal blue water, and epic natural vibes – with only a few friendly faces around, plus that photogenic island chilling offshore.

Must-See Spot:
Squeaky Beach – Victoria 3960 – Open all day, year-round
The beach totally lives up to its name: stomp around and the sand literally squeaks underfoot. Snap panoramic shots of the sea plus that little island off in the distance. Best part? Even in peak daylight, you can find space to spread out.

Traveler Tip:
The drive is half the fun! The route from Melbourne gives you scenic country views—perfect for audiobooks or a killer playlist. Remember, no fuel stops are super close to the Prom, so fill up before you leave the city. Parking’s easy at Squeaky Beach, but popular weekends can get busy, so aim for an early start if you want max chill.

How to Get Around:
A car is a must (there’s no train or direct bus to the beach). You’ll want wheels for the freedom to explore nearby trails and other coast spots.

Eats:
Pack your favourite snacks and water. There aren’t heaps of cafes at the beach itself, but Foster or Fish Creek (towns en route) have decent bakeries and coffee stops.

Be Sun-Smart:
Bring sunscreen, a hat, and maybe a light jacket—the weather flips quick in Victoria.
