Raïs Palace

Castle No. 23 is located at 23 Boulevard Amara Rachid in Algiers and is one of the famous attractions in Algiers. The castle was built in 1576 during the French colonial period. After 1830, it was used as a refuge for young girls, the office of the US counselor, the residence of the duke, and later as a municipal library. After Algeria's independence, the castle was occupied by local residents and suffered some damage. It was later restored from 1987 to 1993 and opened to the public as the Rais Cultural and Art Center of Algeria in 1994. The architectural style of Castle No. 23 combines the characteristics of the Ottoman and French colonial periods, and has now become one of the important cultural landmarks in Algiers. There is an exhibition space in the castle, and international cultural exchange activities have been held. In addition, the castle is close to the Casbah and Notre Dame de Africa in the old city of Algiers, and tourists can visit the surrounding historical sites.
