神居古潭位於上川盆地和石狩川進入石狩平原處的峽谷,這一帶石狩川河岸怪石林立,延綿約10km,是旭川的一處著名風景地。附近有石狩川的激流衝出的「神居古潭凹穴群」和「神居古潭豎穴住居跡」、「舊神居古潭站舎」以及SL機関車(蒸汽機車)的景點。神居古潭還是旭川的著名紅葉景點,每到秋季滿山遍野的紅葉染紅溪谷,堪稱絕景。
