Bom Jesus do Monte is a notable sanctuary and pilgrimage site situated on a hill in the outskirts of Braga, a historic city in northern Portugal. Inscribed in 2019 as a UNESCO world heritage site, the sanctuary is completely accessible to the public and does not charge any entrance fee. The most iconic feature of the sanctuary is the monumental Baroque stairway leading to the Church of Bom Jesus do Monte. We took a taxi which send us to the church directly we so skipped climbing up the 577 steps on the 116-metre stairway. Instead we walked down the stairway after visiting the sanctuary complex. An alternative way to reach the church is by taking the water-powered funicular. The fee is 2 euros for a one-way journey and 3 euros for a round trip.

Ticket-free, is the UN World Heritage Project, the most unique is the zigzag staircase. Overlooking the entire Braga at the highest point, come down from the highest point, walk slowly, and find the beauty of the stairs when you finish.
Portugal's #mountain of Mercy Jesus Pilgrimage# Abroad, the most seen is the church ⛪️. But how different is this, it is a church on the top of the mountain, you need to take the cable car up the mountain
Lovely place to visit. Not busy at all on a rainy day in November. Would definitely visit again.
Santuá rio do Bom Jesus do Monte, a Roman Catholic pilgrimage site known for its serrated 'the' shape of 116 meters of magnificent climbing baroque steps, is a major tourist attraction in Braga along the broad stone steps. See the 6 old-fashioned chapels, some roofs are full of moss, and there are ceramic sculptures depicting the crucifixion of Christ. From the second main stage to the sixth stage, there are different stone statues and fountains representing visual smell, hearing, touch and taste. Five senses of spring water from the eyes of the stone statue. The small tube of the ear, nose, tongue, mouth is very strange and then upstream. There are three steps to show faith and love. The baroque church after the three superdeals have a fountain. It was built in 1725 by architect Manuel Pinto Vilalobos. The interior decoration of the early 19th century is exquisite. The paintings and the crosses offered on the shrine are one of Portugal's earliest neoclassical churches, the condescending pilgrimage overlooking the city of Braga, around the 19th century church and the stairs were requisitioned into a park in 1882 to facilitate access to the temple. The Cable Car of Mercy Jesus is the earliest cable car still in use on the Iberian Peninsula. It is recommended to take the cable car to the top and experience the walk down the mountain. Taste this sacred and beautiful religious building.
The city of Porto's 1-hour train, the round-trip time is quite sufficient. Take the 2 bus from the train station, and the terminal is there. It is a 45-minute drive away, located on the outskirts of the city. You can take the cable car and get off, which is more physical. However, in order to express our piety, we did not take it. The scenery on the mountain is very good, the most beautiful is the baroque steps. On the same day, the church happened to have a local tyrants to marry. You can watch the ceremony next to it. The guests wear dresses. The ceremony is full of sacredness. Visiting the church can continue to climb the mountain, but for the poor physical strength we can only give up.
Go in the evening, sit on the mountain and watch the sun slowly fade, see the whole city gradually blurred from clarity until it becomes silhouette, see the pilgrimage of Jesus in different shapes in the light transformation...
