Hongtai House

Hongtaifang is located at the Baojian Street of Jinggang Ancient Town. It was built in the seventh year of the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty. It is the best-preserved site in Changsha since the Qing Dynasty. Hongtaifang is a brick-and-wood structure with three entrances. The blue brick wall is two meters above the ground and is inlaid with a one-meter-wide earth brick wall. It surrounds the "waist" of the entire building, like a jade belt wrapped around the entire Hongtaifang. This is called "jade belt around the waist" in environmental structure science, implying wealth and auspiciousness. Hongtaifang displays China's thousands of years of brothel culture. Hongtaifang uses many touching stories of ancient famous prostitutes to praise the strength and greatness of women: the first prostitute Su Xiaoxiao, Li Shishi who swallowed a golden hairpin to commit suicide, Liang Hongyu who beat drums to resist the Jin Dynasty, Du Shiniang who sank the treasure chest in anger, Chen Yuanyuan, a famous concubine in the country, Pan Yuliang, a famous flower in Wuhu, and Xiao Fengxian, who was both talented and thoughtful. History is gone forever, and people should have a new understanding of this site. Therefore, Hongtaifang is no longer an intoxicating "prostitute", and has abandoned the filth and dregs. It no longer brings people the vulgarity and morbidity of feasting and revelry, but the richness and elegance that human reason brings out, the great elegance, frankness, broad-mindedness, and justice.
