足羽山公園三段広場のシンボル

継体天皇像は、１８８４年、内山基四郎を中心とした石工たちが、天皇の業績を顕彰するために立てた笏谷石製で高さは４メートル超の像です。自然史博物館の目の前の三段広場という小丘に鎮座しています。この小丘は、４世紀に造られた古墳で、円墳としては県内最大級で山頂古墳と呼ばれています。

顔が大きい

福井県福井市足羽上町の足羽山公園にある継体天皇像です。顔がとても大きいのですが、理由はわかりません。

顔の大きな石仏

福井自然史博物館の手前の高台の上に立っている大きな石仏です。高台はなんと古墳と説明板がありました。大きなお顔がとてもほっこりとします。明治17年に石工さんが天皇の遺徳をたたえるために作られたということです。
