The Gwanggaeto Stele is the tombstone of the 19th king of Goguryeo, "King Gwanggaeto, who opened up the territory and brought peace to the country", and is known as the "first ancient stele in the East Sea". The inscriptions on the stele involve the founding myth of Goguryeo, the early royal lineage, the achievements of King Gwanggaeto in conquering cities and plundering land, and the system of guarding the tomb. It is an early and more textual archaeological material of Goguryeo. Its discovery confirmed the location of the Goguryeo civilization and its center, which had been forgotten by the world since the Middle Ages, and occupies an important position in the archaeological relics of Northeast Asia.
