汉阳陵是西汉王朝第四位皇帝景帝刘启和王皇后同茔异穴的合葬陵园。陵园规模宏大，占地约20平方公里，地上和地下的文物遗存异常丰富。现已探明，仅仅围绕帝陵封土的四周，就有呈放射状分布的外藏坑81座。它们长短不一，内涵各异，充满着神秘色彩。1998年，考古工作者对帝陵东侧北部10座外藏坑进行了发掘清理，出土了各种陶俑、动物陶塑、生活用具、粮仓、兵器、车马器、玺印、封泥等珍贵文物数万件。从出土器物的内容、分布以及封泥、印章上的文字推测，些外藏坑的设置很可能具有某种象征意义，代表着当时中央政府的不同官署和宫廷内设机构，是西汉时期宫廷文化真实而形象的再现。虽然，这里所能看到的10个外藏坑对于整个陵园的埋藏来说还只是冰山一角，一代帝王毕生营造的地下王国，也许需要几代考古工作者的努力才能完全揭开它神秘的面纱。但是，这毕竟是一扇打开的窗口，透过它可以看到，一个两干多年前的盛世王朝正在向我们缓缓走来。

阳陵是西汉王朝第四代皇帝汉景帝刘启与其皇后王氏同垫异穴的合葬陵园。汉景帝于公元前141年死于西汉都城长安，入葬阳陵。王皇后在景帝死后十五年，即武帝元朔三年（公元前126年）去世；合葬阳陵。阳陵位于咸阳五陵原东端，地跨今咸阳市渭城区、泾阳县和高陵县，西与汉高祖长陵接壤，东至泾渭交汇处，东西长约10公里，南北宽1～3公里，占地面积近20平方公里。陵区主要遗迹有帝、后陵园，南、北区从葬坑，礼制建筑遗址，刑徒墓地，陪葬基园和阳陵邑遗址等。
