I was worried about pleasing everyone when bringing my family of four to Koh Samet, but this resort was such a hit that none of us—adults or kids—wanted to leave! The hotel is located right on Sai Kaew Beach, Koh Samet's famous crystal-clear beach. Step outside and you're on fine white sand with turquoise waters. The water is shallow, making it safe for kids to splash around. The rooms are fresh, comfortable, and modern standalone cottages. The color palette features soft wood tones, clean white, and ocean blue—no flashy, trendy designs here, just pure relaxation. Some rooms feature private terraces where you can sit and enjoy the sea breeze in the morning or watch the sunset in the evening. The vibe is just right. The entire resort is enveloped in lush tropical gardens, with coconut trees and tropical plants everywhere. Several outdoor pools are scattered throughout the grounds; some have shallow areas perfect for kids, while adults can find quiet corners to lounge. The whole place has a laid-back, relaxing vacation atmosphere. The biggest surprise was the daily beach fire show! It's a signature event at the hotel. As night falls, performers dance with fire by the sea—it's lively and full of island charm. The kids were mesmerized, and the adults found it fresh and entertaining, so there was no need to head out to find a night market for a show. Breakfast is a hearty buffet with thoughtful options: authentic Thai cuisine, a display full of fresh tropical fruits, made-to-order fried eggs/omelets, and bread, porridge, and other items suitable for seniors and children. You can choose a table at the beachside restaurant and enjoy a leisurely breakfast facing the sea with the breeze on your face—it really captures that vacation feeling. [Intro] Koh Samet is not in Phuket, nor is it in Pattaya. It is in Rayong Province, 220 km southeast of Bangkok, and is the island where Bangkok locals go for the weekend. The island is small, 6 km long and 3 km wide, and belongs to Khao Laem Ya–Mu Ko Samet National Park. The sand is white, the water is green, there are no high-rises, and the streets are quiet by 9:00 PM. However, there are three rules, and first-time visitors almost always trip up on one: admission tickets must be paid at the pier, the last speedboat is at 2:00 PM, and there is no public transport on the island. 🕘 [Opening hours] The island is open year-round with no closures. During the rainy season (May–Oct), waves on the east side are high, and speedboats to some bays may be suspended. A day trip from Bangkok is not realistic—it takes 3.5–5 hours one way, so you would basically have to turn around as soon as you arrive. Stay for at least one night. 💴 [Admission ticket prices] National Park admission ticket: 200 THB for foreign adults, 100 THB for children (40/20 for Thai nationals). After disembarking at Na Dan Pier, an additional 20 THB environmental fee is collected in cash. The ticket is valid for 5 days; you do not need to repurchase it if you leave the island and return. This 220 THB is mandatory, not optional. Many day trip quotes do not include it, and it is only collected at the pier. ⛺ [Activities] Choose by beach, not by hotel: · Sai Kaew—the longest, liveliest, and best-equipped, with restaurants and bars in this area. From Bangkok: Buses to Ban Phe are available from Ekkamai Eastern Bus Terminal, approx. 190 THB, 3–4 hours; private car charter takes approx. 2–2.5 hours. From Pattaya: Approx. 81 km to Ban Phe, 1–1.5 hours drive, Grab or private car charter 1,000–1,300 THB. This leg is why the Pattaya + Koh Samet route is the smoothest. Boat: Slow boat 50–70 THB, 40 minutes; speedboat 150 THB, 10–15 minutes; shared speedboat 200–500 THB (depending on which bay you are staying in). The last speedboat departs Ban Phe at 2:00 PM; wooden boats run until evening, but with fewer departures.
